I think it ruins the photo personally, stands out too much.

I agree, but unfortunately it's a necessary evil, photos get poached and posted all over the internet, and without it the photo is pretty much fair game for anyone that wants to use it. It's easy for someone to remove it, but doing so is a serious criminal offense.
