 God I love Beaver...

How many bikes/people can you get in that and how big of a lake do you need to land/takeoff? We need a 10,000' descent somewhere serviced by STOL floatplanes!
  • 20
4 people and bikes, but it's not really a DH ride. More of a downhill XC ride. About 4000' over 33 miles.
  • 10
 Still that's gotta be sick...
  • 10
I don't know how long the lake has to bee, but you are ok whit 2 or 3 feet deep.
  • 10
I just flew in a 54' beaver on a fishing trip, fucking awesome!
  • 10
i don't need much take off room, as long as the weather is perfect and your load isn't heavy, i'd say way less then half a kilometer. I am horrible with distance, but i used to fly with a few friends and we could take off is a small amount of space. Just splurge and get a turbo beaver.

By the time I'd have enough dough for a prop the technology will be further along, but the Maule M7s with amphibious floats look pretty fun...smaller than the beav but still...
  • 10
its not about technology. Look at the beaver, its OLD, but its the trusted aircraft along Canada's west coast. Its powerful and very versatile. For anyone who has never flowed in a beaver, go out and try it. And if you have been around them since you were a baby, they are even better. MY fav aircraft of all time. The most technology you will get in them is either a GPS, or the new way they rebuild them.

im no expert but i know that you need more then half a click to take off and land lol i worked in algonquin park in ontario, and right around the corner from staff residence is a beaver plane the ministry uses it, they have it on smoke lake( if any one in fimilar) and the take off area is 2.5k long 1.3k wide and the same with the landing, its prb bigger for saftey but still half a click is a little underestimated.

i used to be a dockhand for a float plane company (beavers and beechcraft 1Cool I've seen/ flown in beavers that took off in around 1500-2000 ft of runway. Its possible.
  • 10
Depends on elevation, wind, temp, etc. Float planes need a bit more to get out of the water than a plane on dry land. Either way, there's plenty of room on those lakes, but wind direction plays a big role in whether or not he can get out of Warner.
  • 10
i was referring runway as water, not land. And yes wind, temp, elevation and all that do factor in of course.
  • 10
Rode in a Cessna 182 (smaller than the beav) in Tofino and the guy got us off it under 1500' for sure.

Wait wait wait, back it up...

2nd reply: 'God I love beaver'

 Outstanding picture
  • 10
Agreed, this picture is amazing, the lake is absolutely flat calm, makes for a good picture! Definitely not like the lakes I'm so used to! I'm sure wake boarding would be amazing there! tup Really good picture!
