sorry if my comments were confusing, it was all ordered by his father and some parts "had" to be orange (i.e. Sram X-0 mech and PG-990 cassette) despite me being given a budget limit to work to

the overall build was just under £3,000 with the customer supplying the RF bar and NS rims in orange

I know what you mean about the Domain, it does not have the subtle performance of the Mission Control Damper on the Lyric or the RC2 damper on the Fox 36 but I have to admit the Domain never let me down whilst my Lyrics went back and forth to Fishers warranty dept. in the UK with leaking seals, leaking damper, creaking steerer, etc....

the Fox 36 is a great fork, but requires more care to keep it running sweet (lowers service every 25-30 hours) and we did not think a teenage rider would appreciate that service internal on a bike like a Wildcard which is a tough and durable "real world" performer with minimal servicing...

a problem with Fox forks is unless maintained, you can end up with a very expensive repair bill (scratched stanchions = new CSU) after a season

that's begging for a fork like a 2011 36 talas in black. looks insane still though!

I'd run a 36 Float RC2 set to 140mm travel on the Wildcard

this customer was having this bike built strictly to budget, and the Domain was £350 compared to 36 Talas RC2 at £600!

I never build wheels for my customers (or myself) with aluminium nipples, not worth the hassle...either during building or long term durability

Rob, Did you build the wheels up? I was looking at the NS Trailmasters and was wondering if you could build me a pair up if a i supplied them. What DMR hubs would you recommend for dj?
  • 1 0
yeah we can build them up no problem!

with DMR you want a rear to suit your dropouts (135 Q/R? 12mm bolt though? Maxle? nutted?) and front hub to suit your fork (20mm, QR15mm or 9mm QR) and brake needs (running a front brake? or not?)

that kid is going to be stoked when his dad gives him the bike tomorrow on Christmas day as he doesn't know....

If the kids dad was on a budget, he should have gone for something like a x7 rear mech/shifter, and v8 pedals, and should of got better/lighter forks.

trust me, he was not on an budget!

the Domain 318 is actually the best performer in the mid price, suits the Wildcard frame perfectly (WC is made for severe abuse) and is stronger than a Fox 36 or Rockshox Lyric with less regular maintenance needed (I have owned all of these forks...)

i got the impresion an he was on a budget as a couple of comments above you said
'this customer was having this bike built strictly to budget'
I supose the Domain 318 is a decent fork at a decent price, i rode them quite a bit, strong as feck, but what i was suggesting was to improve performance which fox 36 or lyrics are much better at Wink

How much did the build come up to?

 one world - tasty!

Orange seat clamp would top off the colour scheme
  • 1 0
the seat clamp is blue because we chose a sweet electric blue DMR stem cap from a DMR stem, and then matched this with electric blue brake lever clamp bolts and the Fox / Rockshox blue suspension adjusters

its a nice colour constrast to the orange parts Wink

Haha yeah well I was thinking of getting a blue paint job for my V10 so i bought a load of blue bolts to go with the fox shock and boxxers. But i then thought id go for a red paint job but thinking the blue and the red will look sick! I really want a chris king stem caps. Yeah the orange and blue looks awesome.
