I know you wanted to paint the fork legs, but I would rather get a new fork, those scratches on tha stanchions are gonna bug you forever. I would look into a 07 888 with white lowers (SL ATA or RC2x). They both look and perform stunning!

 THESE: www.pinkbike.com/buysell/753252
A bargain! Get them!
  • 10
there is no point in spending £235 on a fork that performs only a tiny bit better, the scratches are no problem at all and do not effect the performance. i'd much rather spend £10 on getting them powdercoated white...
  • 10
Not in short term, that's right. But in the long term your fork will leak oil and those scratches will rip up the seals.
  • 10
do you know how long these scratches have been on there? well over a year, possibly 2yrs, the seals are perfectly fine and there was near enough god dammit 240ml of oil in each leg when i pulled them apart last month....
  • 10
Looks nice mate, but all that mud that'll flick up will soon turn it brown lol
  • 10
cheers, true, we'll see how well it copes with the mud lol
  • 10
nice looking thing , looks better without the stickers on the legs , and it will look better with white bottoms tup
  • 10
 tar chuck Smile
  • 10
nice big scratch on the stantions aswell tup
  • 10
thats stainburn for ya, i threw the stab on the floor ages ago, and there happened to be 2 boulders, bounced off one onto the other where it slid across it Confused
  • 10
nasty , yeah stainburn can be nasty if you get it wrong Razz

you know you can get them recoated you know
  • 10
yea, they don't effect the performance, so i'm not bothered about it
  • 10
it will wear the seals out faster, and are the open bath Razz
  • 10
i like how your assuiming the depth and roughness of the scratches there.... and yeh, it is open bath
  • 10
 nope im not

but doesnt matter how deep it is , but it will affect performance , why dont you get em coated , my dads mate , works at a place where they can dip them , like chrome plating or low friction adonsied Razz
  • 10
when i say performance, i mean they're not leaking oil. and it does matter how deep it is.... and im not fussed, it's all money anyhow...
  • 10
hmm yeah , and i know it does , and pitted stantions or scratched stantions , can be really bad , but if your not bothered it doesnt really matter
  • 10
 no, it doesn't matter...
  • 10
ok but , im just warning you , they will destroy the seals over a long period of a time
  • 10
so these 3yr old seals, that have had a scratched stanchion run over them for around 1 1/2 to 2 yrs that are perfectly fine, will be destroyed over a long period of time?

right, whatever......
  • 10
yes , and it looks a twat Razz
  • 30
haha be careful Ant, This one time at band camp this dude had a scratch on his stantion and his nose fell off! Big Grin So its probably best to get them fixed!
  • 10
shit man Eek i'll send it to moonglu ASAP!!

and forbes, i wonder about you, how the hell can you tell the severity of the scratch from this photo?

and know that it'll destroy the seals etc....?

and who gives a f*ck about it looking bad, it isn't, if you come and look at them in person, you'll see it's fine..
  • 10
no , i was just saying that scratches or pitted stantions are bad , and f*ck seals up and genarally get worse over time Razz

just saying
  • 10
you said 'im just warning you , they will destroy the seals over a long period of a time' which implies your talking about my scratch in particular.
  • 10
looking good. looks like a nasty scratch on the stanchtion :/
  • 10
tar, and yea, they're purely cosmetic though, not deep and the seals are still sealing Wink
  • 10
