Hey, do u still have the Roco Air on her? How does it compare to a Roco coil?

Im getting a 66 rc3 ti, man I cant wait. Marzocchi is just killing it! tup

I have been using both the roco air and the roco coil comparing each other, the roco air is a bit stiff at the beginning of the stroke, but once you get into the midstroke it eats everything up and pops really well off of jumps. I found that the roco air erased larger bumps better than the coil due to the sortof wallowy midstroke. the Roco coil is plusher in the beginning stroke, but thats about it aside from the weight. The 1 pound difference in weight is really noticeble, and on the jumps, its much easier to flick the bike around with a roco air. You will love the 66, they are super plush, and there is so little stiction, Marzocchi is definatly killing it! Smile

tup Werd up. Yeah, I had the 2010 55 RC3 Ti on my trail bike last year. It's amazing Eek I just sold my '11 Fox Van 180 and just placed an order for the 66 Ti, hopefully by Friday I can give it a spin, can't wait.

Have you played around with the Evo high-speed comp. shimstack?
  • 1 0
I have not played around on the shimstack, and I don't really plan to, the stock valving is spot on for me. Knowing me i would mess it up badly, lol

 Ok thanks. Man cant wait!

Mega props again on the build! What other dh/fr bikes have you ridden? Could you give a brief comparison of those vs. this SS2?
  • 1 0
thanks, I have been on a norco six one for the past two years, its a light FR bike, and there isn't really a comparison to the SS2, the SS2 is better in every way for FR. Slacker angles, lower, stronger, and lighter, and it pedals like a dream. I have also had brief time on a few Kona Stinkys, a trek session 10, and a mongoose bootr. The SS2 doesnt have as much travel as some of those bikes, but it certainly feels like it. Its also corners like its on rails. If you ride in a bike park alot, it really is the perfect bike for that, the 6,5 inches of travel really feels like more, and that gives lots of confidence on the techy trails, and it is really stable in the air compared to the other bikes. Only concern is that the lower VPP link sticks down from the bike a bit, but i haven't had problems with hitting it on stuff so far.

Thanks too. Good to hear. Yeah Ive been hearing tons of positive comments/reviews on the VPP platform, should be pretty sick. tup

Maybe in like 2 years, building up a full DH sled, I'm thinking V10c, defo up there on my top 3. Devinci Wilson, and the Knolly Podium. Ive asked a couple of Podium owners and they just can't stop raving 'bout the bike. Knolly's Four by four should be the sh*t...

 Yea, Knolly's are pretty nice.

SWEET bike! how are those 66's working? Im thinking about getting some but can't find any reviews on their durability/performance/service needs, etc.
  • 1 0
thanks, and the 66's are totally awesome, no problems whatsoever with them, they are so plush and sensitive it is unbelieveable. Durability wise they are also really good, nothing has worn out on them yet, and nothing looks like it is about to wear out any time soon, and they literally need zero service. I have had only one oil change this season on them in september after riding almost every day this summer and a lot in the spring and even then the oil really didn't need to be changed as it was still fairly clean so for service needs, you really don't need much.

thanks for the help, I am trying to decide between these and fox 36 talas for my new bike.
  • 1 0
Yea, no problem. I have talked to a few other riders in my area that have fox suspension, and they have been having a few issues with leaking seals but overall performance is similar to the 66, but obviously I am a bit biased towards the 66's compared to the others. Now I see you mentioned that the fox would be a talas, would you be pedalling up hill with it? If you aren't planning on doing pedaling up then i would say a 66 or even a float instead of the talas. The float would be the better choice if you do go with fox as opposed to the talas as it will have less air seals, because is non-travel adjustabe so no need for complicated air chamber systems so less chance of something going wrong. If you are planning on doing some pedalling then I would say to go with the fox talas over the 66 as you will be able to lower the front end, and climb easier, as the 66 is extremely sensitive and makes it very difficult to pedal up the hill, its best suited to going down the hill. To sum that up quickly, if you are doing some pedalling up, then go for the fox, but if you aren't doing any pedalling up, go for the 66. Either way you can't go wrong, both are great forks. I hope this helps you a bit! Smile

thanks again! I am going with the talas because its the cheapest fox option I found a deal for (nobody has deals on van or float) and my area is pretty flat with mostly XC riding. I however do 90% of my actual riding at lift mountains, so the Talas will be useful for the bit of uphill I do, or just for fun, but in general, I am getting a great deal on a solid fork. BTW have you heard about marzocchi potentially closing? check Vital MTB front page if you havent yet.
