mk2 design, shrunk linkage and idler pully added. axle path less rearward by a small amount. The two gears will be wrapped by a composite wraparound sleeve, bolted to the seatube and bb shell, to keep grit and stones out. Havent got round to drawing that up yet. Dropout details not done yet either.

I would make this out of cromo steel and the linkage out of aluminium , also i would do the cogs in steel also.

thats the plan Front trianly will be steel, may do the swingarm in aluminium to reduce the unsprung weight of the rear end and keep it stiffer. Cogs will be sourced from commercial gear wheel manufacturers for high load applications with good wear rates, then machined down to fit this linkage. Another lucky side effect is that if the cogs do eventually wear and develop play, only half of the teeth have ever been used, so it is possible to remove them, turn them 180 degrees and reinstall them, doubling the lifespan Big Grin

WOW! You really have though this through well buddy.

I'd do it the other way - Front triangle Alu, swingarm in steel. You can get similar weights with steel by using thinner tubing and still have the same strength - But then you'd have the shock absorbing qualities of steel in the swingarm to improve on traction and take the edge out of high speed rough sections a little. You'll loose more weight overall this way and the bike will feel a little more direct in corners imo.

i get that, gut the rear triangle was cheap to make aout of alu, the front very difficult as i have the shock cage part that is easier to make from steel Frown

Thats a fair point. A CNC machine would do wonders for your design.
  • 1 0
yeah, but cnc doesnt give the best properties for this section i think, forging or something would be betther. so steel it is Razz

Fair enough. I guess with so many people accepting mediocre products these days CNC seems the obvious choice as opposed to the best. You've obviously thought this one through Razz

thought it through far too much, need to be revising! lol

Pfft revision is overrated. Get oot and ride!

How much would something like this cost to make?
I WANT ONE LOL!
What name are you thinking of?
  • 1 0
Working on a name, hopefully cheaper than most dh bikes cost now :S
But i'll let you know how much it costs if i ever get to make it dude, not much will be happening till after the summer i expect.

i like slinky! why d box?
  • 1 0
you know what?! i cant actually remember the d
the box is the box-section at the bottom of the downtube
