he got a DNF because he went out side the track tape just after the tire got caught in the chain stays and then came back on track in a different place, Check the freecaster footage for it.

 aye I noticed that

guess it was evidenty not "for some unexplainable reason"...

Nope that's still unexplainable. Going outside the tape and back at a different spot is a DSQ, totally different from a DNF. DNF means he did not finish the race, and he did. They said he took too much time to finish. There is no such thing as "too much time" in the rule book as far as I know.

Sorry man i suppose you probably know wayyy more about UCI rules than me.

Actually I didn't know about the time thing so I asked. And what I was told doesn't make sense....

Do anyone elese reallized he was riding tubeless ? It does not surprise me that happened at that hight speed when you corner really hard it´s quite easy to lose air or "unrim it" like this ... I´m pretty sure he wasn´t riding tubeless last season.... Too risky in my opinion I had same experience...

Look how thin the sidewalls are on that tyre too, a normal DH tyre wouldnt fold up like that would it?
  • 1 0
Dont think so, even my XC tyres dont do that! They need to sort this out before the next race, happening to often now...

maybe tubeless not that useful if he is riding tyreless aswell Wink
  • 1 0
well he flatted normally and then continued riding on the flat and thats what caused the tire to come off the rim. sure, dh tires and tubes add 3+ lbs to your rig, but its the only surefire way to make sure you dont flat.

Those Conti's sidewalls are easily twice the thickness of a dual ply maxxis.
  • 16 0
Well in that case maybe they should use ones half as thick, but with wire beading.

And Maxxis written on the sidewall... Wink

Exactly the same happened at the sda race at fort William for him. Except the rim eventually collapsed there too. The athertons are sponsored by 'no tubes'. Hopefully something will get sorted out soon

i don't think tubeless is the way to go in a DH race, yeah it will seal up nicely if you get a slow flat, but how often does that happen in a DH race? it's just asking for your tyre to pop off.

 Too much pressure?
  • 1 0
it almost appears that he was riding tubeless but with a tire with a folding bead. or maybe the tube is tangled up with the tire or it got torn and ditched on the track
  • 1 0
definitely tubeless since the tyre valve is still on the rim. I remember them being sponsored by a tubeless company too. If the rim flat spotted it could easily happen.
