Seriously though, not to be rude, but unless you and your dad are trained mechanics, you would have been in way over your head with this thing. I have already spent A LOT of time fixing and working on it and I am just getting started. Without my father being a mechanic and my uncle owning an auto shop, it just wouldn't be feasible. I literally give this truck a day every week devoted to working on it (and it's not enough hahahaha). I have already fixed the radiator after it leaked out all it's fluid, adjusted the timing, replaced $300 worth of tires, greased a lot of shit, found and fixed the leaks in the air ride, wired in speakers, cleaned up some electrical nonsense, took apart the doors to re-mount the mirror (which I had to replace), fixed the high beams so they work, mounted the rear view mirror, and lots of other shit. This weekend I have to grease the driveshaft bearings, fix my right headlight, and find that god damn rattling noise. And like I said, I am just getting started. If you thought you were going to just buy it and drive it, you were wrong. Even just getting it off his property was a bitch. It was un-certified and I had a bitch of a time getting it to my uncle's shop because of the air bags topping out before the shocks. I couldn't tow it so I had to spend $700 on a float to get it to the shop. Even just changing the tires requires 2 jacks because it's so low. Honestly, you dodged a bullet on this one. I love it to death, but I actually have the resources to properly care for it. You would have gotten a week in and been like "What the f*ck do I do with this thing? This shit is a mess." ....Then you probably would have sold it. Insuring it was also a bitch because it's so old. Nothing thus far has been easy.
my buddies got a shop and all that would be fine with me the only thing I don't know how to do is weld so I wouldn't have been able to c notch a chassis ahaha. im looking for a project though.
Unless your buddy works for free and gives you a nice discount on parts, you would have gone broke within the first month.
Either way, you're gonna have to look for another project because I will be cruising in this thing until it turns to dust.
How much did that cost if you don't mind me asking? Your truck looks great! I'm a Jeep guy but I have a soft spot for sports cars and lowered vehicles.
For the whole truck (with the air ride). The air ride system alone is worth about 3500 and the truck is in great shape for it's age. It wasn't exactly cheap, but the price was right for what it is and what I want out of it.
I am very happy with it. My plans are as follows....
-Fix the leak in my radiator that started today (possible gong show) -Replace rubber bumpers the suspension sits on when all the way down -Replace side mirror that's broken -Replace ghetto-ass speaker -New window bumpers -Redo interior (chocolate brown leather and new foam) -Possible valve job (compression sounds like it's off in one cylinder) -Paint the truck and get a tunneau (SP?) cover that is also painted to match. Tan on the top half, chocolate on the bottom half. -Drive the truck until it turns to dust and fix all the shit that will inevitably go wrong.
Keep the tan color is my vote. Suits the truck. If you're gonna spend time like that, a brown leather bench seat would be pretty baller. With some wood trim here and there.... obviously this is after the little bits, or if you even care. Auto or Manual?
I have met crackheads I like more than Rob Dyrdek, apparently I conveyed my sarcasm poorly. I used to like all black (murdered out yo) trucks, until I saw Rob Dyrdek driving one. I hope you have the opportunity to run Rob Dyrdek over with your truck though.
I wish I could up-prop your comment more than once. I would do so all night. I will definitely run him over if he is ever strolling through my hood.
Also, @ Angelo: I will be doing the bench seat a chocolate brown leather over the winter (won't be driving it when there is snow on the roads) and replacing the seat foam. I work in upholstery, so it will be siiiick. Wood grain is a good call dude. I have a spot in my dash I need to fill with some sort of trim.
