I just ordered a 2014 SB66 alloy with rear carbon triangle. I am super pumped. I changed the fork for a RS Pike RCT3 160mm with XO1 and a set of mavic crossmax st wheel set. How do you like the CCDB air? I was concerned with the top tube length being so long. I am 6' 1'' I have no time behind the bars on this bike and hearing you being 6' 2" makes me think I ordered the right size. Good luck on the sale.

Get a 50mm stem and you should be fine. If you ride DH more than all mountain or climb, you will like this top tube length more than any other bike you have ever ridden. BDair is amazing for harder riding. I never really bottom out (or at least feel like I do.) I've heard great things about the Monarch Plus though and it's half the weight. If you don't ride extreme terrain and ride if hard, I'd say go with the Monarch Plus. Both are great shocks. This much I will say though, If I had a DH bike as well as a SB66, or just riding light enduro (no freeride,) I'd get the Monarch Plus.

Nice bike man. I'm planning on getting the enduro version and then upgrading down the road with the same basic setup except for wheels and cranks. What's the biggest drop you've done on the bike?

The biggest drop I've done on this is probably around 12 feet. I've taken this bike off 35-45 foot jumps though. Killer freeride bike that can pedal too. I'm currently building up a lighter wheelset and am thinking about swapping out the saint cranks for XT (2x10) or XX1 (1x11) to make it a little ligher and pedal friendly.

 hows this bike for dh?

It sure isn't a full on DH bike by any means. It has a slacked out headtube angle and really long top tube which helps with stability and high-speed hits. I can get the BB to drop in corners (not as good as my session 9.9 but) pretty decently. The single crown fork is really nimble but notice it gets a little squirly in the gnar. All and all, I think it's one of the best "DH feel" all mountain bikes money can buy.

yeah well i mean i live in pretty am kinda place but if you switched out the suspension for more beefy stuff like a 36 float and a coil or db air like you have could this bike handle park riding? like big jumps and gnarly rock gardens?
  • 10
Oh, for sure! This bike handles 30+ foot gaps and 6+ foot drops no problem. It only has 152mm in the rear, but it honestly feels like it is 170mm or so.

oh shit thats awesome! im like 200+ lbs so im not sure how it would handle that what about big boulders and super gnarly bumpy sketchy stuff?

The DBair makes it seem super stable and I honestly haven't felt a serious bottom out on anything I have hit as of yet. If you are thinking about getting a good all mountain bike that can take a pounding at bike parks, I would strongly recommend this bike. It's the closest to a mini DH bike as you can get. You'll have to swap out the front fork and wheelset though. (It only comes with a sissy 15mm throu axel option for 2013.)

You can fit a coil on the rear as well.

oh okay, i would think about doing that. Im only concerned since im a heavy weighted rider and dh bikes are more stable at a tall height and heavy weight but if i were to run this at a park id get a 170 or180 fork and an rc4 coil maybe im just worried that if i plowed it through a rock garden i dont wanna feel the frame or suspension flexing on the way down, ive also heard you can hit the seat tube on the tire if ya aint careful
