I cant yet, im waiting on new kit! Give me times to get a few things done to it though. Having an issue with the brakes already (appears to be faulty from factory) so may be getting an xo upgrade...dont know what they are like though?

X-0 trails are stellar FYI, I love mine so far and they are light too
  • 1 0
Avid have told me it would be the X0s as an upgrade, unsure if its the trails? So you rate the trails then bud? After something superlight! Wuick question...i notice with avid calipers, it appears that there are washers under the caliper itself. Im looking to install 203mm rotors both front and back, if i use an avid brake, will i still need washers (i will obviously run 203mm mounts) Just find it strange and a tad unsightly. Im used to the caliper being mounted directly ontop of the mount

I had a look at mine after you said this and the spacers aren't 'standard' flat washers, but rather they fit into each other as a kind of ball & socket joint to allow some kind of movement during installation, so would guess they are kind of needed.

As has been said before though, the X0 trails are amazing!

Suppose they are like ball and socket joint actually. I just find them rather unsightly mate and im wondering that if i opted for a 203mm adapter (using 203mm rotors) and opted for a avid braking system, will i need them? I dont know why Avid brakes use them but shimano, hope and formula dont

Well avid are now using 160, 180 and 200mm rotors now, so guess if you use a 203 adapter that would negate the need for the washers?

I will certainly give it a try mate, just dont understand why they are there (i thought initially it was to space the caliper upwards to get perfect pad track onto the rotor)

jus seen your info mate all avid brakes whether you have the correct size adapters you have to use the spacers so the caliper sits correctly on my hardtail thought the caliper woiuld jus fit straight on to fork as i run 160mm rotors but had to fit the spacers cuz the calipers sits to low on the rotor an rotor rubs on the top of the inside of the caliper mate pitty they wouldnt jus sit on lyk hope an shimano but they dont so the spacers have to be under neath calipers for the calipers to sit correct height on rotors hope this helps budd an bikes looking great fp sold one in work an they are mint an i also had the pleasure to build it to which waz awsome

Thanks for the info dude! I'm planning on ditching the 5s anyway so that should get rid of that annoying issue!

Npz mate but you will ave sme problem with all avid brakes I'd go shimano mate saints or xtr be perfect

If they came speced on the bike you may need them but with my x-0 trails they didn't have the washers and it looks really clean and mounted nicely Also I had regular x-0s last year and they felt nice but lacked power and faded a little. The trails are much better, loads more power and the same lever feel and such

 Nice one dude! carbon levers?
  • 1 0
 Yup, hardly heavier than x-0s
  • 1 0
Cool man. You weighed it yet?
  • 1 0
SUrprisingly I havent dude, probably makes sense to weigh prior to installing lighter components but I think i will wait once my other components are installed. Im sure there will be a bit of a weight saving from carbon cranks and maybe an air shock...
  • 1 0
Must be about 3kg? Sounds about right...
  • 1 0
 Defo an air shock Wink
  • 2 0
Haha I'm sure you can sort me out dudeWink
  • 1 0
Sooo nice man! makes me jealous! Take care of her you lucky bugger!! Big Grin
  • 1 0
Still not weighed it yet? Smile
  • 1 0
Not yet bud. Bike is currently at my local shop getting a headset installed and some new gearing (I'm not very good at stuff like that so will leave it to the experts). Will weigh it once I get it back mate. It needs a lot of work to get it to the point where I want it. Planning on getting some new forks at the end of June!
  • 1 0
P.s. how much do you think a pair of mint boxxer race (2013) forks would sell for second hand?
  • 1 0
Ask them to weigh it for me please Smile I would like to know haha.

What forks you swaying towards?
  • 1 0
Probably £450ish, seen them for around that figure recently.
  • 1 0
Haha why do you need to know:p i think it's either dorados or world cups mate, see what comes up at the time!

I'd be happy with that, planning on taking the boxxers off next week as I'm going on holiday anyway and the funds will keep till I get paid at the end of June and will contribute towards the new forks!

Lol, just out of curiosity Smile

Cool, Dorados are hard to find
  • 1 0
Ill get a figure to you tomorrow buddy. It will be a lot higher than what I would like though.

Tell me about it buddy, extremely hard to find. Makes me despise you as you have a pair:p

Will probably end up with boxers the way things are going
  • 1 0
Cheers, i'm thinking its around high 16kgs.. I actually got mine from the US, only way for me to get what I wanted.. haha
  • 1 0
I think that figure is about right mate! I think most of the weight is tied up in the wheel set and the crankset. Will see a few lb dropped with a few upgrades on those areas (already purchased a carbon crankset anyway). Brake wise it's either going to be hope v4 brakes or saint m820s. Considered x0 trails for the weight factor but would rather have scary powerful braking power.

Haha I don't fancy that hassle dude! Dorado are a dream I think.

 amazing sled man...
