Money very very well spent, I can't stop looking at the bike its stunning from aesthetic and engineering levels.
It rides super smooth over anything and gives you pinpoint accuracy with constant feedback. The rewards are amazing when you get things right on this bike.

i have the 2010 specialized demo 8 2 sam hill edition and i have loved this bike and really cant fault it , the linkage system works soo well and is amazing for the more technical steep terrain which i love , jumping it is also great for and due to the low bottom bracket , scrubbing and much easier

This frame is tough and maneuverable. I've never been worried about hurting it... It's so solid looking and feeling. It's easy to clean it back up and make it shine. Scratches have been fairly minimal and it still feels terrific. Great all around bike, whether you freeride or downhill, this bike will handle it. And the design of the frame (to me, at least) epitomizes big, burly bicycles. I wish I could use one of the frames as decor to hang on my wall haha.

Had the 2008 demo. Great bike. long, low and stable. This was a terrific bike for going as fast as I could through the rockiest trails. It fell a little short when things turned tight and twisty and it was a little heavy. Spec'd well and I Still have some of the parts on my Dh rig 3 hard seasons later. In short, if you want a fast bike for flowy trails than this is choice. I have heard that the 2010 and up models are more nimble for the tight stuff.

after cracking a 2005 Demo 8, Specialized gave me a new one on lifetime warranty. Its a LOT better than the 05 demo, its easier to drift, it loves manuals and it pedals better than any DH bike i've ever been on. Love the no-brake-jack rear suspension!

I love my Demo 8 II (2006 frame). It's solid, indestructible and swallows all my riding mistakes... I'll stick with this bike for a while yet, just can't see anything else out there that could replace it for my type of riding.

Super awesome bike. Very stable on high speed and corners like a cat on karpet. I rode the 2010 and 2011. 2011 feels better but the 2010 model is a beast too! The top tupe is kinda short but the chainstay is one of the shortest (I think it is the shortest) from all dh bikes! This makes it very very aggressive and it's a fun bike to play around with! This is the perfect bike for people that are looking for a straight-up race bike. Riders that are looking for a freerider should take a look at the younger brother sx trail.

It's a really nice bike and it will give you hours of enjoyment. To start off with, it feels really bouncy and when you compress into berms at speed, you will find that you bounce out of them really easy. Once you get used to this though it is great, as you can bounce across sections really easy. Whereas the old Demo used to be a bit clanky and really stiff, this new Demo is light, really responsive and super smooth. I wouldn't really recommend this bike to new riders as the it can be really difficult to control at time and you might need to man handle it a bit.

I ride A Demo 8 and it can eat up anything you encounter and doesn't take away most of your pedaling like most DH bikes. This bike will make you feel as if your eyes are lieing to you as you go down the hill and butter the big bumps that look unrideable. I wish that the bike was lighter but when the bike is that stiff, pushing a little weight makes the bike constant over everything.

I have used the bike over a year now, and I can strongly recommend it.
You will have to take your time to get used to is, but once you got it, is your best partner. Its low gravity center and the fox40 gives you an exceptional threshold to go thru obstacles, in the air is extremely stable and when pedalling, it is light, even though is not stiff at all, you catch speed very quickly and it sustains it. With its original components, is indestructible, except for the wheels. Get Mavic instead, but bottom bracket, transmision and brakes are superb. Bottom line, the bike is cool for starters, but in hands of a experienced guy, it goes ballistic. Get it, I think the price is more than good for the product.

The 2011 demo 8 ii has a low center of gravite giving more speed for the rider in tight single track and small flowy berms. It is a overall dh machine and pushes you to go full speed.

Its fast, turns on a dime. Jumps fairly well too I'd say. The only complaint ever I have is that they lowered the bottom bracket SO much that pedaling in rocky sections isn't nearly as manageable as I would like.

Master piece - I've been riding this bike for 2 years now. Extremely balanced, very comfortable ride. Maybe too low for certain terrains but definitively a great machine for startters and pros.

It's what I ride except mine is an 06. Love it and would definetly buy the new model. The bike rides through everything you want it to get through, very responsive brakes and extremely durable over the rocks and drops. The newer bike is lighter and nimbler then mine so there is no doubt you will enjoy the ride.

Specialized bikes are das shittenhaus! amazing bikes that can handle anything, they ride like beasts, tough as tanks n all around amazing gravity sled. one downside is their extremely long wheelbase, not tood good for supertight berms or tricky skinny's but an all around beast for DH riding

Specialized Demo 8 II (MSRP $5500) — BUILT FOR STEEP TRAILS AND BIG AIR, our Demo laughs in the face of ruthless terrain with 7 and 8 inches of generous travel. Its top-of-the line Fox components, stable geometry with low central mass and insanely strong double ORE down tubes are competition-proven to withstand the most extreme abuse.

200mm-travel Fox 40 RC2 fork is tuned to match performance of the Demo 8's DHX shock. External high and low speed compression and rebound adjustments, coil spring preload and adjustable travel help tune performance for any situation.

Custom Avid Elixir R Carbon brakes features full hydraulic calipers, metallic pads and a big 203mm rotor in front and 185mm in back for awesome control in fast and steep situations. Elixir R Carbon levers have a tool-free reach adjustment for enhanced comfort and control.

Truvativ Hussefelt made from forged 6000-series alloy for maximum durability. Gamut P-30 chainguide is easy to adjust, simple, durable and was designed to work with the FSR suspension system.

Specialized Lo-Pro magnesium pedals are low weight. The Cr-Mo axle, sealed bearings and replaceable grip pins also boost durability.

Specialized Hi-Lo hub features variable sized flanges for a perfectly tensioned, ultra durable wheel. A 20mm thru-axle on the front improves stiffness and steering precision, while the 10mm chromoly axle in back increases durability. 32-hole DT Swiss F550 rims are custom for Specialized. 32mm width, eyelets and a sleeved. DT Swiss Competition 2.0/1.8/2.0 butted, stainless spokes and brass nipples for a true build.

Fox DHX 5.0 coil shock custom-tuned for the Demo 8's FSR telemetry. 15-click ProPedal damping, boost valve and bottom-out resistance give the Demo 8 responsiveness, no matter the terrain.

Geometry is based on low BB settings.
