@microwaveric: OneUp posts are really easy though. I reckon I could do it with 1 hand, it's a lovely, simple design - looks like the others in the market, but clearances are just about good enough you can get the lower rail clamp out without adjusting the front bolt at all.

Combining Parts From Vivo, SRAM, & Shimano to Create the Ultimate Mechanical Drivetrain

I recently bought the Eagle 90 complete drivetrain and won't be going back, weight be damned. 2 weeks after fitting, the derailleur took a big clout - right by the bottom jockey wheel. But it shrugged it off and carried on shifting reasonably well! I took it apart and, using a friends one as a guide, bent it back by eye. It shifts perfectly again now. It's since had another 5 or so reasonable knocks (the kind that would have written off a GX or XT mech) and it's still great. It shifts smoothly every time, and, as a guide who's riding 5-6 days per week, reliability is my #1 priority and this delivers. One negative - clutch tension disappeared pretty fast, it's nowhere near what it was when new after maybe 2 months riding.

Built Not Bought: André Plarre's Balfa BB7 Inspired Trail Bike

While I don't see something that looks like a BB7 to my eyes (it's white and high pivot, but those are the only similarities IMO), the bike looks REALLY good. Definitely not quite the numbers I'd have, but he probably builds to fit what/where he rides and I don't ride there. Love to see he just builds for the sheer enjoyment of it too...

My answer is aimed at growing up somewhere like Whistler, rather than simply a place bike-positive (e.g. the Netherlands). I think there's huge benefits and some definite downsides to growing up somewhere like this. I've lived in both Whistler and Queenstown and heard from people who work with kids that there's a higher-than-average level of mental health issues (depression and anxiety) from growing up somewhere with such extremity on the doorstep. The pressure parents put on to kids to perform, and the kids put onto each other (directly or indirectly) can be nuts through formative years. It's very, very hard to deal with at 12-18 years of age, and the current social media driven society will exacerbate that. So the answer is - mega, but also; not necessarily all it is cracked up to be.

Specialized Levo R Review: Does a Short Travel, Full Power eMTB Make Sense?

@donimo: As someone who also has a 'downcountry' bike on the want list, but as someone who has a good bit of experience riding a variety of e-bikes, my opinion is that, with e-bikes, more suspension has almost zero drawbacks. Weight, yes, suspension, not so much. A 20kg e-bike with 160/170mm travel will be pretty much as fun everywhere as a 20kg e-bike with 120/130mm travel. Due to the impact of the motor/battery, in my opinion the amount of suspension travel pigeon-holing a bike's category doesn't scale in the way it does with normal MTB's.

The 27.5" Front Wheel Is Dead And I'm More OK With That Than I Ever Thought I Would Be

@plyawn: I would say the full 29er bike you have is less fun for reasons other than the fact it is full 29". Probably revolving around the amount of suspension it has vs the Reactor, and the suspension kinematics. Over the last decade I've had a few interesting bikes; a 26" Process 167, a 29" Hightower LT, a 27.5" Gen4 Nomad, a 27.5" and then mullet converted Transition Scout, 2x 29" Stumpjumper Evo's, a 29" Scor 4060LT, and my Gen5 Trek Slash full 29er was the most fun. More fun than the 'built to be fun' Scor 4060. I've now got an Intense Tracer 279, a mullet bike. The Slash was probably as fast and definitely more fun than this is too. (I have no love for Trek as a brand, and the Slash wasn't perfect, but it was a bloody brilliant enduro bike if you weren't racing)

@donimo: The thing is - if you rode this back to back with a normal Levo 4, would you really pick this? I have a feeling that even then... probably not. What they've done is try to capture part of the market that barely exists (or to create a pointless market). Realistically without both of us trying them back to back, we can't answer that. I've ridden both the Giant e-Reign and the e-Trance though and to me, the Trance was absolutely pointless. It brought nothing to the table except a lack of confidence. In my opinion.

'...and the chainring is usually the first thing to wear out...' From experience it is chains, then cassettes, then chainrings, but sure. They sure look pretty though!
