Thought Experiment: The $22,000 Trail Bike Build
You can get a handmade Titanium Moots for the same price as an s works hardtail these days... it's a bit ridiculous. I have no clue why titanium isn't more popular these days

Thought Experiment: The $22,000 Trail Bike Build
Lol my $1,700 pinkie build has a MSRP of half this bad boy. Would be fun testing the 2 back to back to see how 10 yr old top of the line everything keeps up with modern top of the line everything. FWIW my bike is a titanium softail with a carbon lefty conversion so kinda a similar bike

Update: Remember the Ever Given? Your New Bike Might Still Be Stuck
@justanotherusername: I guess my point is that it isn’t any more than top of the line components from Taiwan the marketing and margins just can’t compete

How Much Do Professional Mountain Bikers Get Paid? - Pinkbike's State of the Sport Survey
@SuperHighBeam: Mid to late 30s seems to be the golden years. Never too late to become a pro biker. Seems like you need to establish yourself in life first. Looking at these wages, I’d be lucky to ever turn a profit mountain biking. It would all be reinvested into gear and travel it seems

Update: Remember the Ever Given? Your New Bike Might Still Be Stuck
@justanotherusername: Hope made my bottom bracket and Brakes in the U.K., headset made in USA hubs are swiss made, rims are French, Seatpost, handlebars & grips made in USA. Cranx made in USA by Boone, stem made in USA only Asian components on my bike are shifters, cassette, chain & tires FWIW. On my single speed the only Asian parts are the chain and tires. It can be done. It isn’t cheap; but plenty of great stuff made with sustainable labor practices.

Thought Experiment: What Would It Take to Build a Sub-7kg Mountain Bike Using Only Stock Parts?
@lihtan: and I think much to the disdain of manufacturers, some of that stuff does not get destroyed. There’s someone with drop tested mountain bike rims on eBay of various manufacture. I bought 3 Used pro carbon fiber frames from some guy off FB marketplace for $250 yesterday, and he had no clue what they were really other than “expensive bike frames”. I’m guessing they were sent to be destroyed as one for sure was a sponsored riders bike.
