PRESS RELEASE: Angel Fire Bike Park

Greetings from the Angel Fire Bike Park trail crew!

The snow is melting faster than Aaron Gwin’s tires can rotate on our Would Cup race track! Okay, that may be a farfetched analogy, but in all seriousness, the snow is nearly gone and the trails are begging for some fresh tire tracks. Hopefully, that excites you as much as it excites us! We are officially open for the season with 100% of our trails open! That’s right: you can shred Upper Supreme’s “Cacao Pow” loamy goodness top to bottom! For those of you looking for a mellow warm-up lap (which is recommended), try out our revamped Easy Street green trail with amazing views and easy riding for the kids or first-time bike park riders.

Park Update: Angle Fire Bike Park

What We Are Looking Forward To:

Too much to list! We will be heavily focusing on our green trail “Easy Street” for updates to create easier riding for kids and beginners. This is a necessary project for the growth of Angel Fire Bike Park. And besides, who doesn’t want to encourage the youth and new riders to try our sport? They are the future!

As for our “core riders:” don’t worry; we have you covered, too! Look for updates all over the bike park, including new, rerouted connecting trails; constant maintenance upgrades; and new, fun stuff to play on all over the mountain. Keep an eye out for new sections of Boulder Dash, which will be closer to a full top-to-bottom blue jump trail with over 150 features to punish you and your bike on. Updated trail plans also include Hungry Hippo, Lemonade, Duke, Diesel, Ziggy, Mini Boogie. We think you get the point!

The Angel Fire Bike Shop is bumping up the stoke factor by adding three new e-bikes to their arsenal. The Specialized Turbo Levo is a full-suspension mountain bike with a little extra kick by housing 504Wh of trail-taming juice, efficiently integrated into the motor in the down tube. All of our bike park and greenbelt trails are privately owned, so there’s no red tape on where these bikes can shred. So if you're looking to explore some new trails, expand your routes, and have fun doing it, the Turbo Levo is the perfect blend of trail performance and power to give your ride the boost you’ve been looking for!

Aside from the bike park, we will be continuing our Greenbelt hiking/XC trail system expansion with the construction of the Cougar trail. This trail is 4 miles with a blue rating and will drop you down to Monte Verde Lake, where you can sit and relax by the water before continuing your journey. Another XC trail update will be newly legal Carson National Forest access points, complete with trail kiosk and mapping. We also are working closely with the forest service to legalize and adapt more trails in the Carson National Forest, resulting in more terrain to be enjoyed by all. We are very excited about this!

We hope you are just as excited as we are about this season and where the future of the bike park is headed. More and more (and more!) trails is our answer to that question. We look forward to seeing new and familiar faces and can’t wait to get some Angel Fire “cacao pow” roosting off our tires. See you on the trails!

Utah needs to get it's bike park scene together.

I know man, the only good one is deer valley but it's far up

DV is building new stuff for this season and opens next month, Brian Head is updating its courses big time, Sundance is open, and admittedly, Canyons decided to do something stupid... Then you have Snowbird, and the other resorts that are going to open soon. I'd consider our game pretty great. We also get a lot more snow than NM does even on this weak season.

@Connerv6: Have you ridden out of state before? Northstar, Winter Park even Steamboat? They all crush what we have. Sundance and snowbird are pretty meh. DV is really all there is up north and even DV only has two real bike park trails.

@Connerv6: No, Utah's bike park game is super weak. I moved here from NH last August, DV is garbage and any of the others are not even worth mentioning compared to what is going on in New England right now.
  • 3 0
And to think DV was worse a few years back before they went to bike trays and the flow trails were built.

When I went to Park city I thought it was great. I would definitely go back if I didn't live a plane ride away.

@jtm12090: From the northeast and our bike park game is pretty sweet right now but local trails blow compared to utah. Plenty of good free trails in utah unlike the northeast only has a few far in between.

Yeah, dv is okay, but the real fun stuff is so short. All the non fow trails feel so short. But at least they arent the dochenozzle vail and want to actually do things for bike parks.

As does AZ. Sunrise is the only one we have and it is SO run down and ‘0’ trail maintenance. Pretty shabby.

@weezyb: If someone says Northstar crushes anything in Utah that's pretty bad. I ride Santa Cruz and Whistler and no one really rides Northstar/loose Tahoe dirt/Mammoth kitty litter after getting the taste of Whistler. I've ridden Winter Park and it is night and day way better than Northstar. I compare it to lower mtn Fitzsimmons

@jtm12090: Thats why we have the title "Beast of the East" for Killington.. shit its name speaks for itself.. especially after being designed by gravity logic...ya know.. the same guys that designed Whistlers trails.

 Brian Head is sick...

@jtm12090: A fellow spoiled man like myself coming from the Beautiful land we call Highland Mountain bike park... I moved to Oregon 3 years ago, totally sucks ass... I feel your pain brotha

This park is in New Mexico btw for the newbs like me who have to look this stuff up because the articles never seem to bother mentioning.

 Exactly what I was thinking!

Way worth it if you ever decide to head south. There is no other place like AF within a 1000 mile radius. Guarantee it!
  • 16 0
Ahem! That last picture looks a lot like Whistler.
  • 5 0
Yeah, that is definitely the fade to black drop...

 @Motoracer531:
Gonna be at AF Friday to Monday and couldn't place that drop or read the trail sign on my phone.
  • 3 0
I have several pics of myself on that drop, and I've never been to new mexico, lol.
  • 3 0
Was going to say, been to angelfire plenty of times and they would not allow a drop like that.
  • 3 1
When you're a bike park in the USA but you have to use Whistler marketing pics to promote your weak bike park game
  • 1 1
@Roscoe22: Have you even ridden AF? If not stfu. There are only three bike parks actually worth mentioning that are all similar to one another and the top of the bike chain... Whistler, Angel Fire, and Killington. Lemme know when you have ridden all 3!
  • 1 0
Lawls I just posted on that pic... I recognized it immediately as FTB.
  • 2 0
@icedemon05lrb: Killy is definitely good as of last season. But I also ride Thunder Mt and I gotta say, other than the slow lift, it's just as good as Killy. And much closer/cheaper to NYC and Boston.

Hopefully they fix hungry hippos this season. They need a proper jump trail!

I love Angel Fire park, but wish there is better camping than $15 dirt lot....
  • 1 0
The hotel/lodge is extremely reasonable for pricing and it generally includes lift tickets in the price.
  • 2 0
 Couldn't agree more!
  • 2 0
What is wrong with the camping? There are a lot of places within 10 mins of the park.
  • 3 0
I stay in that lot, cause it is super close to the lifts and I don't have to worry about packing everything up and driving to the lift lot. Then going back and setting up again. Just pop on down on the bike for lunch or anything else I need. Then at the end of the day, cerise in in and your set it's also walking distance to most everything (I and if you walk as much as I do, to pretty much everything) Plus the people are great (anyone staying there is a rider).

But yeah, put a tiny bit of effort in to it. Plant some trees, put in a few more tables around, level some areas for tents in the grass field. Nothing major, just a slightly nicer place for cheapskates like me.

We camped at some little private campground 20 mins away and it was pretty rapey feeling. It's New Mexico so it's unlikely you're getting dense forests compared to somewhere that rains quite a bit.
  • 2 0
I skip all that and camp for free in the woods like 15 mins away. Pretty easy to get to and not a lot of people know about it so it's usually empty

I was just talking to family and some friends about heading down to Northern New Mexico for the holiday weekend. Think it's gonna happen now. A little Angel Fire followed by some hot springs and delicious chili everything.

That’s a photo and advertisement for Trek Dirt Series, based out of Whistler. The dirt series skills camp will be in AF in September.
