Spring Training with C4

As some of you may know I started C4 Rider Training officially in 2010 after assisting and coaching young racers/riders in the corridor for almost 10 years. At C4 we are all about winning races, but we also focus on much more than riding the bike. Every year we grow a little more and spend our time teaching riders the do's and don'ts of being successful racers/humans. With that being said I would like to introduce McKinley Languedoc. McKinley is a 15 year old Squamish local with a great eye, and a talent for media. He will be the official C4 Team media guy for the next couple years. Welcome to the team. Expect more awesome posts on the C4Race blog, and special thanks to Mckinley for his hard work. See you at the the track!

Head Coach of C4, Cory Leclerc, takes out a group of riders for an exciting weekend of training. After months of rain and snow the sun is shining on Squamish again. The locals are taking full advantage of it, riding everyday. The crew set out with some drills and a gym work out the first day, then got into a race simulation on the second day.

After some training Cory took everyone out to the Timberwolf Restaurant for some awesome burgers.

Next it was onto a workout at the Challenge by Choice gym here in Squamish. Karen, the trainer, showed the boys some proper technique and some new exercises. Once they had the techniques down she had them work out. This gym is a biker friendly gym, workouts that focus on what you will be doing riding and translating that into an exercise.

The next day, everyone was feeling good and ready for a race simulation. Everyone met up around Quest University, did some warm ups, and it was off to the races! First up was a course walk up the trail then some practice laps. Cory gave one on one coaching to the riders individually as practices went on. The riders were getting amped up, a little bit of friendly competition was present. Lee Jackson and Zander Geddes from the Norco Factory Team were helping Cory and giving tips to the younger riders. Cones, timers and marshalls were all set up and it was time to race!

Thanks to Geoff Cundiff and Guy Auger for marshalling the race. After the race Cory had everyone regroup at Black Tusk Jerky for some sweet beef jerky. All in all, it was an awesome weekend of spring training with C4.

Cory and C4 are legit. I see C4 racers on the podium regularly at the BC Cup DH's I announce. I've known Cory since the early 90's and he has always been a ripper on the mtb and the moto. Numerous film appearances over the years and solid results like multiple wins in the Crankworx AM Dual Slalom etc. He's always out on the bike having fun yet a keen coach driven to help riders excel. I love to steal his jokes too.

The C4 crew has more fun than you guys think. I didn't realize we had such a bad attitude lol! Maybe peeps that think that should just come and say hello?

Another thing, DH racing is a sport. Yes sports need to be fun, but athletics need to be taken seriously. The C4 crew camps at every race and has a great time always. When parents spend 1000's of $ on their kids racing maybe it's ok to take it seriously? Keep the negative comments coming, feedback is always appreciated!

contrary to some of the comments regarding attitude and lack of fun...C4 practices are heaps of fun! We work hard, but have fun doing it! This crew probably has more fun than most, and those boys are some of the most respectful kids out there. Keep up the stellar work Cory!!!

C4 has some of the coolest kids I have ever met. I was new into dh a few years ago the ONLY reason im still riding is because of C4, never once was i told you have to win or dread practise..Good job cory see ya around!

@ rexbikes- I agree, a simulated race looks like lots of fun, but if you have ever seen this group first hand, the group dynamic is 0% fun/ enjoyment, and 100% we're hear to win/ "I'm better than you" attitude/ arrogance/ cockiness. That's just how I feel about C4.

I couldnt agree with you more, nothing wrong with the training but their attitude ruins it.

I agree, the attitude's gotta go. It's mountain biking, not a freakin' military boot camp! Keep it fun!

In what way does a simulated race not look fun?
