May 18, 20262004 Hammerhead (Custom Titus Cycles Racer X) Med
$1500 USDThis bike was made by Titus Cycles (now Planet X UK). It's based on the Titus Cycles Racer X XC bike, but has gussets on the front of the DT and TT, a taller BB, and a more sloped TT for more stand over and a bit more rear travel. It's a custom model of bike Hammerhead Bikes (formerly in Tex, now in Mich) had made for them and built it up to my spec. Frame Geo is 71 deg head angle, 73 deg seat angle. Spec is Fox Float 100 RLT fork with upgraded wipers, Fox Float R Shock (roughly 93mm travel with sloped TT), Chris King Classic Hubs w/ 6 bolt rotor mounts, DT Swiss XR 1.4d rims, DT Swiss Supercomp tri butted spokes, Race Face Deus XC Crank/BB w/ 22-32-44T rings, XT front derailleur, SRAM XO rear derailleur and X5 9 sp shifters, Shimano XT CS-M760 34T cassette, SRAM PC 69 chain, Chris King headset, Thomson 120mm stem, Maxm MX-5 carbon bar, Oury grips, PNW Rainer dropper, WTB Rocket Ti saddle (Wide), Magura Marta SL brakes, Speedplay Frog pedals, Kenda Karma 2.0 tires.
Originally I had it built with SRAM XO Grip Shift shifters, Thomson seatpost, and a WTB Rocket V Ti saddle (Med). The bike with original spec, which I'm including, weighs 25lb. With it's current spec it weighs 27.5 lbs. I have included a pic of the original shifters, saddle, seatpost, and two brand new SRAM PC 971 chains, as well as a set of SKS Shock (Blade, X) fenders, all of which are included. The Ti bottle cage it's shown with is included of course too. The mount for the front fender is in the fork steer tube. The bike has been ridden no more than a dozen short rides with less than 150 mi on it. I got out of mountain biking for some time and kept it stored indoors most of the time I've had it. The bike rides fine, it's just an older design that I've recently replaced with a bike that's slacker and longer. Part of me wants to keep this bike for flow trails because it really rails them, but I only have room for one bike.
I've included pics of the serial number and invoice

Review: Hope Tech 4 V4 Brakes - Strong and Sensitive
If it weren't for the need to use DOT Fluid and the screeching, I'd probably buy these. I considered the TRP EVO Pro, but they require a 180mm rotor apparently as TRP says they're only to be used with their 2.3mm thick rotors, and they don't make those in 160mm. This is because I ride an all mt bike. I don't need the stopping power of an enduro bike and I'd like to keep the weight as low as possible.

The 2026 Specialized Levo R is in a Category of its Own
I can't help but think for as much as they're charging for these, for a lot less you could build a bike of the same travel with a no motor, no battery frame, and keep your heart, lungs, and legs in better shape. And without having to lift a near 50 lb bike onto/into your vehicle before heading out to or back from the trailhead. Seems ridiculous to me, Brage would facepalm this!

Hidden Treasure: 6 Vintage MTB Gems From the Pinkbike BuySell
You have to laugh when only ONE has a dropper post. I used to love my Thompson post, but now it's just a relic that sits in a box. I had an Intense Uzzi SL with a White Bros fork on it years ago that would have fit right in with these pics.

Two BC Riding Facilities Shutting Down for Pickleball
Where I live, 4 perfectly good tennis courts next door to us have been taken over by Pickleball, where they use small rolling nets to make a PB court out of each half of a tennis court. You rarely see anyone playing tennis there anymore, and when they do, it's at odd hrs. On the one hand, I applaud folks who maybe don't have the time or fitness to mt bike to find another way to stay in shape, but does it have to be Pickleball? Every time I walk by the courts on my way home I say to myself, I still think it's outdoor ping pong, or I'll mimic the toy-like sound of the plastic ball hitting their paddles. I keep hoping it's a fading trend, but it only seems to be growing. At least a space the size of 4 tennis courts isn't big enough for anything related to the mt biking I do, which is basically all mountain stuff in the NW US.
