@boopiejones: KKR is private equity, so $1.7 billion is a mix of their money and secured/structured debt which is put onto the books, leveraged buyout. It is usually 40-50% financed by debt put on the books of the acquired company and 50-60% KKR investment. Goal is to improve the company's valuation to IPO or sell in 3-5 yrs. I don't think any major PE bike buyouts in 2022 worked out. KKR probably lost money on this investment.

@korev: Have the GC and TC, they both work the same. Only difference being obvious, platform.

He was referring to data acquisition, which is a completely different beast. It's really hard to pull good actionable conclusions from data acquisition for most people. It's measuring shaft speeds, but the dynamic sag data would be useful.

@TurboDonuts: Yeah I have a friend that did a Moto after gouging an MTB one last year. Its not a bad idea, given how expensive the high end DH lids are getting. Supposedly the new eye watering priced POC is going to have a moto cert.

@wburnes: So polycarbonate shells are less durable, but they reduce weight. Plenty of smaller crashes, where I wouldn't replace a helmet, but a small rock punctured the PC shell, which automatically retires the helmet. ASTM DH rating isn't CAT 5 like bike parts. Also big difference between Enduro full face vs DH. The ASTM 1952-15 DH rating is pass/fail standard, it only tests at 9.8m/s, which is far short of modern DH and needs to updated IMO. The best pair to look at is DH and NTA 8776 rating which is at higher speeds for ebike.

@Sweatypants: As an ex OEM trained technician, I am not aware of anybody rebuilding airbags. In the US the assumed liability is off the charts. For the nitrate based charges, how would you even refill that?

@phops: So one of the downsides of using a system that doesn’t have an equalization port, is that air will leak past the quad seal overtime. Right now with the valve, you get a big mid-stroke ramp up ~1/2 into stroke, b/c it shuts off the Secus negative chamber. So essentially get stroke sensitive two stage negative volume. You wouldn’t be able to create a two stage system with just air pressure adjust. The decrease in initial friction and the substantial ramp in mid-stroke is why I think the Secus is so great, which the second part is the valve. It look at how the Secus is built, there isn’t space for a full Schrader valve with current valve system. Based on my experience, average Secus owner would struggle to setup a multi-chamber system. Most people won’t do any bracketing. I think with motos, vehicle weight is more substantial and less affected by small changes in psi

@phops: Getting that packaged with outer chamber that increases lower leg volume and the midstroke cutoff valve would be a manufacturing nightmare. I consider the valve critical to the performance because of mid stroke support. Also you adding unnecessary complication to already effective system. If neg isn’t self balancing through equalization port, you would have to ck psi more often due to seal leakage.

@phops: That would of added a ton of unnecessary complication. It’s a dual chamber in there. Secus is fantastic as is, IMO.

They moved production to Genio, which has a good reputation for alloy frames. FW probably just needed more volume and custom butted tubing.
