@dgwww: I’m afraid your view of an “American” is pretty flawed, and possibly media driven? You also seem to be missing the point that I’m fiercely protective of respecting property boundaries and asking permission to access property you don’t own. This isn’t about “sticking it to the man”, this is about perpetuating the image of douche bag mountain bikers that are nothing but a liability. An image that stops us from being treated like adults at the table.

@sofakingwetarded: I live in NY, I'm under no impression that the state is always looking out for my best interest... However, I'm grown enough to recognize that a heavy handed approach like this from the state is a clear sign that they are fed up. As you mentioned in your own post, there are legit paths forward. People can get involved, get on boards and help make decisions that benefit mountain bikers. Or, people can keep pirating land and keep giving people all the excuses they need to keep us off of land. I think it's clear what path I prefer.

@chrisclifford: “we have nothing” is super dramatic. There are tons and tons of legal trails in the North East. I don’t even live in a popular mountain bike area and I can get to 7 or 8 legal trail systems within an hour’ish of my house. Go into Vermont and that number explodes. Either way, illegal trails are how the sport started. We now have to grow past them and start to work the system to gain access. If we keep pirating land, access will only get harder and harder. Vermont in particular has some of the best laws to allow for land access, but good luck getting access if mountain bikers are simply known as the group of people that can’t follow a rule to save their lives.

@EnsBen: I'll also add, I knew on this site, logic would get a bunch of downvotes. But eventually mountain bikers have to stop and figure it the hell out already. The attitude that went into building the trails in this article is the same attitude that got us kicked off of tons of land at Kingdom. Mountain bikers were disrespectful and crappy towards the land owners, guess what, the owners kicked all of us off of their lands. This time, the land owner is the STATE OF VERMONT, do you really want to piss of the owner of 360,000 acres of park land? Land owners eventually get fed up, and we all lose because a few people can't control themselves. This whole sport could use a little growing the F' up already.

@EnsBen: Pretty simple. It was not their personal property and they had no permission to build/alter the land. Cutting in about 1.5 miles of trail, cutting out/down vegetation, and drilling into rock to build wooden features is pretty egregious. This wasn't a couple of kids that raked in a basic little trail and built a tiny jump in the local park. This was grown adults spending years knowingly doing something illegal/wrong. Let them take accountability for their own actions.

Review: Shimano XT 8220 Brakes - More Consistency, Same Value
Any mention on caliper durability? The Many, many sets of 8120's I have blown through because of leaking/misting calipers, or fragile pistons would love to know. I'm tired of having to remove brake pads from my bikes if they might sit for more than a few days.

@amschroeder555: What part of "few of the costs" don't you understand?
Do you actually think your #'s are actually representative of all their costs?
They also need to have a realistic MSRP to make sure their retailers can purchase these from CC and sell them to customers and leave room for retailers to make a profit.
Don't forget, you can essentially always get at least 15% off directly from CC as a customer as well.

With just a FEW of the costs associated with running a business, you were already at $50'ish in costs for the axle. A pretty normal retail formula is doubling the costs, making it $100 (based on your #'s).
Sounds like CC is actually providing them for a pretty good deal, huh?

You expect them to design them, make them, store them, pay rent/mortgages, payroll, benefits, service costs, utility bills...
You're wild assumptions on only (probably flawed) raw material costs is downright asinine.
