The first event of The
Sea to Sky Enduro Series went off in style with
The Gryphon in Squamish on May 3rd, with over 150 racers competing. The 5 stage enduro race included classic Squamish trails; Angry Midget, Hybrid, Lowdown, Your Mom, Fool’s Gold, and Somewhere Over There.
A competitive Pro field showed up, as well as some quick young guns and locals giving the famous names a run for their money. Remi Gauvin led the race after stage 4, but a technical on stage 5 left the door open for Jesse Melamed to take home the top spot. Second place went to Matt Beer, and third to Jordan Hodder. Dylan Wolsky, Tyler Morland, and Dennis Beare were all within 4 seconds of third, making it an extremely tight finish.
Katrina Strand took home third for the women, with Vaea Verbeeck in second. The win went to home town hero Miranda Miller, with a commanding 20 seconds lead.
Special thanks to
Nesters for the on course food and refreshment. Immediately following the race
Intense Cycles kept the good times rollin’ with a custom caesar bar, and
Black Katz Catering hooked everyone up with ice cold tall boys. The after party did not disappoint, with prizes from
GoPro for the top finishers and VIP packages for select riders in the
Intense Cycles sponsored stage. The winners, Jesse Melamed and Miranda Miller each took home $250 in cash, sponsored by Squamish based web agency
VentureWeb. Thanks to
SRAM for the cold pints, provided by
Philips Brewing.
