Pinkbike Poll: Does Bike Weight Matter?
115 lb female here...yep...bike weight matters...definitely going up...and to a lesser degree going down as well. 3 lbs is a HUGE difference when climbing steep technical stuff. I might be able to make 3-4 moves on the heavier bike, but then I am done and have to walk some, whereas I might be able to clear all 6 or 7 on the lighter bike. I can also go a lot longer and faster on the lighter bike. I can manage a heavy bike on wide open flattish terrain but it is scary on narrow trails with drop off or deep ruts because if I tip the bike just a little to the side the weight can topple me over. I calculate my 25 lb bike is like a 44 lb bike for a 200 lb rider...riding an ebike without the motor !

Dec 24, 2016Rockshox SID RCT3 solo air 120mm
$300 USDBlack-PERFECT condition
Ridden fewer than 60 miles, never crashed, by 115 lb female
I replaced it with a Pike 130 on my Mach 4 to slacken the head angle and slow the handling a bit.
It has a brand new through axle because the original got stuck in place for some odd reason ???
The steer tube has been cut to 7"

Mar 13, 2016Ripley Small Excellent Would love to sell in SoCal
$2750 USDI built this bike to be as light as possible as I am a 118lb 5' 5" female and not a spring chicken. I also had it geared with a 22 tooth chainring so that it would climb as well...or better..than my beloved Ibis MojoSL. I rode the bike for a year, about 1000 miles by the Cateye, and it is in PERFECT condition with one small rock ding inside the rear frame in front of the wheel (see pic). Over time, for the type of riding we have locally in San Diego (rocky, technical, often slow), I found I prefered 27.5 inch wheels for their handling at my height. The Ripley can't be beat for flowy, fast trails though. I have been riding my Pivot Mach 6 exclusively for over a year and it is time to see the Ripley go to a new home where it will be appreciated.
