CRC Nukeproof in Windham

The boys from CRC Nukeproof arrived in Windham after a pretty mixed set of results in Mont Saint Anne last week. We took a flying visit to New York to do some sightseeing and are now in full race mode after traveling a few hours north to Windham.

The biggest disappointment was that Matti Lehikoinen had crashed during last week and sustained a shoulder injury that has put him out for a few weeks. Matti has had the worst luck with injury but the team can't wait to get him back!

The track in Windham has a pretty old school vibe to it, with technical sections in the trees separated by fast long turns out on the ski piste. Its certainly faster than ever this year as well which is going to make for some close times and great racing.

Al Bond took a run down the course with the Go Pro on his chest. As soon as you strap a camera to Al he just pins it, and also crashes! Often helmet cam footage doesn't always show the speed of the track but this one certainly does... Check out how pinned Al is!

Matt Simmonds and Joe Smith are both on form right now. Both are sitting inside the top 20 overall in the series and reinforced that with top 25 qualifying times here in Windham.

As ever the team mechanics Carl and Brooks are keeping the bikes dialed in. Carl took some time out yesterday to show you guys how he fits a new set of the team's Schwalbe tyres to the Mavic tubeless rims.

Chest mounts are cool but i think this one was a bit too shaky :/

i hate chest mounts too. the footage is horrible!

Yea hate them way to shaky. they have to be really stable or stabalized later to give a decent video.

Yeah I could never get my chesty to properly fit without nearly killing myself on the straps. Either you tighten them like mad or you use an editor to stabilize...which sucks If anyone knows a mod to make it less shaky I would be very thankful.

I hate chest mount as well.... i came up with a mount that puts my gopro under your visor on the forehead of the helmet.........its easy to do, balances wayyyy better than being on TOP or SIDE of the helmet...... the visor acts as a shade and helps with lighting in all situations........another bonus is the camera angle is as close to eye level as it gets so when you watch the video the angle is virtually true to life....... nothing worse than watching monkey arms rubbing one out down a trail....

That's a very good idea Davo!

What happened to the god nitrate stanchions!?

The only trails suitable for chest mount are the A-Line and Dirt Merchant because they are smooth. Chest mounting a WC DH course will definitely cause an epileptic seizure !!! Could not wait for that clip to finish, it was shaking so much, the mouse could not find the pause button...

I has a seizure about halfway down, did he make it?

wtf happened at 42 seconds in on the second video? it looked like he did a role but still managed to get back on like right after... either that or it cut in with a seperate clip... but like mind f*ck right there

please someone tell me what's this protection on the rear triangle on the second last photo? some kind of a tape?
  • 2 0
Sometime they use the soft side of velcro, i cant make it out in that photo thought. I just use inner tube and black gaffa tape it works well.

 electrical tape i think

Looks to be mastic tape. www.shop3m.com/80610322945.html?WT.mc_ev=clickthrough&WT.mc_id=shop3m-AtoZ-Scotch-Rubber-Mastic-Tape
Little heavier than velcro, but it works great.

Best stuff to use is outdoor non slip tape for stairs and stuff around pools. It's thick, sticky and lasts for longer than you want it too.

It is a latex compound that molds like putty and glues on to parts, Dirt magazine had it featured a few months ago but I forget the name of it. I've seen it on levers and frames.

So are Schwalbe Muddy Mary's tubeless compatible?
  • 1 0
apparently so after watching that vid of him mounting them as tubeless...
  • 1 0
You can use any tyres in a tubeless setup so long as you use a sealant. You're thinking of UST - Which is tubeless specific tyres & rims that do not require a sealant.
  • 1 0
You should telll that to my Continental Mountain Kings. Couldn't get them to seal tubeless no matter what sealant nor as clean a rim as I tried :/
