@freeridebigisland: Just get a headset cup that makes it external. Did that to put a 1.5" fork in a 2015 Giant Talon (1 1/8" frame).

Cannondale and GT to Reject Traditional Mid-Year Model Structure

"Now planning on only updating mid-to-low end bikes on a two or three-year cycle." Actually makes sense from every point of view. The business makes more money, the customers doesn't feel SO let down when the new model year outspecs a newly purchased bike and it's good for the planet, less planned obsolescence.
