@mikelevy: Mike that's bollocks. Its ridiculous to say its slower than a traditional system. You can change up, or down, about 6-8 gears in a micro second !!! WITHOUT PEDALLING !!!! You HAVE to pedal to change a trad system. And if you force changes under power you are nuts, any decent rider releases pressure. No different on the Pinion. I am disappointed in your review is in my view very poor and just lazy in respect of many important issues. I quite understand Rob Metz being ticked off. He has a helluva lot more respect from me than a negative reviewer looking to damn with faint praise.

1 Question - What's Keeping the Gearbox Down?
You don’t know what you are talking about. If there is transmission loss I cannot feel it. What I can feel is the smooth effortless perfect functioning of my pinion P12 as I ride through the wet and mud with my riding buddies ancient derailleur system clunking and making other very nasty noises alongside. Keep riding your preferred choice. My Zerode Taniwha has 6500k on the clock all kinds of tracks and terrain, I change the oil at a tiny cost every 12 months. It does not break and is simply a game changer for those with the stones to take the plunge.

1 Question - What's Keeping the Gearbox Down?
Well done, I am in NZ, owned Taniwha since Feb 2017. Recorded 6500 km on all kinds of trails. There is no discernible drag. It is silent, incredible handling, a very good climber, and super reliable. Two oil changes, one chain, head set bearings, two sets of brake pads. Still looks and runs like new, amazing bike.

Should the Derailleur Die? Zerode's Gearbox-Equipped Taniwha - Review
The gearbox and shifting are in fact very, very good. Mike did not ride it enough. The review is flawed. It took about 500k of riding, about two months for me, to be fully at home. I will never go back, the Taniwha is a game changer.

@mikelevy: Your review was yours Mike but the negativity was unfortunate. I still ride my Transition Smuggler on occasion but am quickly reminded of the huge superiority of the Zerode. I am 60, and weigh 65kg, and ride three times a week. I do a lot of climbing, the Zerode is not sluggish, I do not understand that comment. When the technology is understood the shifting is automatic, and has very big advantages. My Taniwha has had brake pads, an oil change, and seal services. Thats all. Its as tight, quiet, strong and amazing as the day I bought it. It is the best bike I have ever owned, no question. And I have to say Rob Metz is an amazing fellow who will personally help anyone who asks. He is a gem of a man and understandably passionate.

@NickB01: there is no way your Capra, good bike though they are, will out descend a Taniwha on difficult terrain. That is a complete fallacy.

18 months on my Taniwha. Awesome bike. 4000k on all kinds of tracks. Shifting the gearbox is so superior to the stupid antiquated derailleur there is no comparison. There are a hell of a lot of brainless comments from stubborn fools who have no ability or right to judge as they have no experience on a Zerode, and clearly no wish to obtain any. Keep your derailleurs.

@TucsonDon: My description of the Taniwha, with one years ownership, thousands of miles, two sets of brake pads,... and after previous years of apparently top end bikes with fall apart continually troublesome derailleur systems, would be - strong, stable, very fast, perfect suspension, unique, reliable, cheap to run, low maintenance, and superb grip shift and gearbox. Designed and built by a mountain biker to be ridden.
