I think the biggest thing is the media for the event dried up:
What happened to photo epics?
The squids reccy day video?
The bike checks?
I don't think you neccesarily need video highlights but just media that tells a story of adventure and the race.
Did the pay check for the media dry up or the interest from the companies supplying the media?
The format was also better when it was self-supported more while on track. You didn't need to be part of big team to compete. Obviously it helps but you if you smashed your bike during the race the only person who could fix it was yourself and your fellow competitors.
