Not really. The 34 on the front gives a higher (harder) ratio for going fast. 32:10 to 34:10. Not much, but front rings rarely go outside of 30-34, with some occasional 28 and 36 rings. Basically, he'll get a bit worse bottom end (32->34:52), for climbs, but a bit more top end speed.
