Sunshine Coaster XCM Race

This weekend the Sunshine Coaster XCM Mountain Bike Race will be held marking our 16th year. Over the years, under various names, the Sunshine Coaster has always been about our local mountain bike community putting on a race. It has never been a flashy race with a ton of prizing or cash, but it's always been about having fun in a low key (some say "organic" feel) event where our community extends their welcome to other mountain bikers to come to the Sunshine Coast and ride our trails. At the race, you’ll see us smiling, giving you directions, pointing you in the right direction, constant cheers and shouting words of encouragement to help you dig deep into that reserve you never thought you had. Each marshal, registration volunteer, sweeper and many others have a story to tell about their latest trail project or bridge they fixed up or places they are thinking of visiting this summer.

Sunshine Coaster XCM Race

We all have that mountain bike passion in common and this race is about these everyday riders getting together in creating, building bridges, brushing, raking, tamping and armoring our trails for you to have the best possible racing experience. The organizers couldn't have put on this race without this dedicated army of volunteers. Thank you to the Sunshine Coast United Mountain Bikers and Sunshine Coast Cycling Club! We are humbled by your amazing dedication to the event.

Our amazing Sponsors have been instrumental in providing amazing support with prizing and cash awards for the winners of each category. We would like to thank the Province of BC and viasport for their generous support of this event.

Online registration will close on Thursday, April 28th at midnight. On-site registration is available and will be cash only, only taking place if space allows, so you’re better off to play it safe and register online! We will take your cash on race day but we’ll charge you an extra $20 for making us do more paperwork. For your $75 entry fee, we include your bbq and beer after the race. We may have extra beer available for cash – it depends on the registration numbers. The Gun goes off at 10am precisely.

On Sunday, May 1st, we invite you to stick around and join us on one of the four guided rides we are offering on the Coast; Sprockids, Kinnikinnick, B&K, and Halfmoon Bay. These are by donation and all proceeds will go to the local clubs who build and maintain our trails. Rides will be classifieds according to kids, gravity sucks, real XC, and more XC. We invite you to join us for a beer after the Sunday rides at Persephone Brewery in Gibsons, where you can treat yourself. Kids are welcome there too. They have an outdoor pizza oven which you can smell a mile away. Preregistration is required, but you may sign up at the race registration. Also, you may choose your ride area when you sign up. Donations are handled by the Ride Guides when you check-in at the meeting spots on May 1st. We will send a confirmation email a day before the event.

Will you suffer? Yes, more than likely. Will you have fun? Oh, that's a definite yes! And that beer is going to taste oh so good after riding the 2016 Sunshine Coaster

Okay - we'll promise to consider it for next year. In the meantime, why don't you come over to our 'Ride the Trail Days' on May 1st. Endless Biking is providing a 14 passenger van to shuttle riders from the B&K and Powerlines to Guys Gulch. From there, you can blow your brains out on Mach Chicken. Or maybe try riding the other dozen or go downhill trails all the way down to Powerline again from 10am to 3pm. All day shuttling for $30. Last ride goes to Hwy 102 for that last run down to Persephone. You couldn't get that kind of deal with the Mach Chicken DH race or at the Gravity Park. If still need a race fix - try Strava Wink and prove to your buddies that they missed a great event. Hope to see you this weekend!

Sorry thats my fault. The confirmation email is the night before on where to meet etc. All great ideas have their hiccups I guess. We've made it so that if you're preregistered on-line, you just need to show up at the designated meeting location(B&K and powerlines in your case), sign the waiver, pay the ferry man and jump into the van! To all reading this comment, space is limited for the all day RC shuttle so register online soon!
