18 Bikes Launches No. Six Dirt Jump Frame
i thought about it some more and used ChatGPT for a breakdown when manufacturing bikes in the UK. I think £1000 is well priced for what is a artsian frame.
Raw materials:
- Reynolds 631 steel tubing: £65
- Steel for dropouts + seat clamp + gussets + cable tabs: £35
- TIG welding consumables (rods, argon gas, tungsten wear, abrasives): £22
- Powder coat (media blast, prep, curing): £55
- Packaging (box, foam, wrapping, tape): £12
Workshop overhead per frame:
- Electricity share (lights, machines, welder, extraction): £18
- Equipment amortisation (welder, jig, grinders, notchers, maintenance): £80
- Workshop overhead share (rent, insurance, heating, waste disposal, extraction system): £120
- Design/R&D amortisation (prototyping, testing, failed frames, CAD time): £50
- Branding (headbadge, decals, custom bits): £18
Labour (internal actual cost, not bike shop retail bill-out rate):
- 8 hours fabrication @ £28/hr: £224
Total estimated internal cost to manufacture: £834

My guess is that the going rate to cover everything would be circa £60p/h here in UK. Could you make one in 16hrs?
