Congratulations man! Given your experience, I would say that this is a pretty good result :D
I have never taken part in a race, so I'm just guessing. But I think that you should take advantage of your strengths. If you're faster than most of the others going downhill, then you should push as much as you can there. From my experience, it won't make a lot of difference on your energy reserve and you can win plenty of seconds.
