Camera work seems a lot worse than at previous rounds. The drone piloting is just erratic, there are a lot of instances of trees covering the action (like the entire Stevie Smith drop), and the giant tricky rock slab that rightly got so much attention on MoiMoi and Ed Masters' videos doesn't show at all. The camera cuts are just all over the place, having trouble even finding the riders, but also cutting away to team managers during those rare cases where you actually CAN see anybody riding. If you have to cut to team managers, do it during those parts of the run where there is no footage available and you only see a static shot of the forest.

" giant tricky rock slab that rightly got so much attention on MoiMoi and Ed Masters' videos doesn't show at all."

Yeah, really worried about that. The first janky rock section in the lower part of the track is one of the most important parts of the track for making time. If they don't have that camera'd, this crew is completely incompetent. They must not have mountain bikers doing any of the setup.

Hopefully it's just because of quick cuts during the broadcast.

Just saw an update from the livestream chat. There IS a camera there, but they're having tech issues. Hopefully it'll be sorted before the semis.

@jayacheess: Ah that would explain the odd pause between shots in that area as well. Fingers crossed!

Another day of Gwin getting interrupted so that the split times can be screamed immediately at the viewer.
  • 6 0
just so unprofessional and disrespectful at this point
  • 11 1
Man, brutal to hear Gwin is being cut off on the commentary. Let each of yas finish a sentence.

I feel like Cedric was actually sounding better for this broadcast, its the other guy (Rick?) who cuts Aaron off constantly just to read what we can all see on the screen. Like does he feel his job is being threatened or something?
  • 6 0
@sb666: he spent all year memorising the full names of tracks and teams. Maybe it’s in hind contract to spell them out in their entirety at least once per race Big Grin Also how would we know how fast everyone is going if he wasn’t interrupting Aaaron mid-sentence every single time….

the interruptions are insane, broadcasting 101 day 1 stuff. just shows the lack of prep by the Commentators sure Rob and Claudio would cut each other off but only in the most important times where it was often warranted for drama.

these guys on the other hand just ramble Gwin is the ONLY saving grace ALL SEASON in the commentary booth i cant even think of 1 constructive insightful thing Ric has said in almost 10+ hours of broadcasting. i dont mean to be a hater but this man is just underqualified if hes interrupting one of the best riders in the sport giving key insights....

you can tell it pisses Aaron off because he used to go back and finish his thought now often he doesnt bother and were left without his nuggets of wisdom just so some Scottish guy can scream out the obvious

 @OceanParkDan351: Scottish guy???

 @waxed: *Irish guy

The coverage is so bad at the moment, I really hope they have a few more camera angles for tomorrow. Missing a whole lot of key sections. Broadcast is completly over the place, missing riders, parking lot shots etc. Commentary...yeah Aaron ist great that's all.

Will Ric ever let Gwin finish a sentence!!!? It is so damn irritating
  • 3 0
„Something happend“ yeah duh, but what? Ah no one knows because there are empty searching camera shots, drones, the beautiful tree tops…

We‘ll just not commentate on the rider but tell random generell bla bla about mtb or the track… its almost like ignoring the rider on track because their conversation has nothing to do with the rider… quickly pick up on the obvious and then return to chit chat, especially Rick, cant get enough of himself.

Please: commentate on what you’re seeing and dont just talk what you’re thinking about.

Also, messing up foreign names like Lais and Lisa for about 3/4 of Lisas run is just rude and respectles!

Can someone please start a petition to stop Captain obvious Ric McLaughlin living in Perthshire, Scotland, United Kingdom but originally from Lisbane, Down, Northern Ireland from interrupting gwin. Please.

Juniors gonna be getting the best crack at that pristine fall dirt. Tomorrow is going to be a wet one
  • 3 0
Relatively light rain in the forecast, though.1-3mm over night, 1-3mm in the morning.

Why does the overall trophy have to look like its for FIFA? Cause the UCI is just as corrupt?
  • 6 0
Yessssss Valentina won it all !!!!!
  • 3 0
Absolute carnage in the mens. Every second rider either blows up his wheel or crashes
  • 4 0
That winning run was off the fkn rails
  • 4 1
anyone else confused are they covering more than one run at a time???
  • 3 0
They always do. Depending on the track there could be 3-4 riders in the track at one time.
  • 2 0
@bgoldstone: i understand that but they usually show one rider at a time i kept seeing one rider on track then a different rider at the finish line then back to yet another rider on track to the point i couldnt work out who was who or what was going on
  • 3 1
Coverage is embarrassing. National Champ and leader so far we didn’t even get to see any of his run (Hawes)
  • 3 0
That coverage is a ducking joke
  • 4 1
And compared to last year's junior coverage...?
  • 3 0
@Maxcommencemal: Yeah I’ll give you that Smile Just surprised that over a whole season they don’t get their stuff sorted. With weird camera work and one rider gets 10s whilst others get their full run shown. Haven’t really seen anything of the winning run on the live feed have we?
  • 4 0
@ESKato: they mentioned it at the start and all through the broadcast they were having camera issues
  • 1 0
@ESKato: Nathan was in the group that leave every minute, so no we didn't see as much of his run as we'd all have preferred. The faster qualifiers start at longer intervals so we see more of their runs. It's a pity that they had trouble with the camera in the upper part of the rock garden and at the Stevie Smith drop (although they covered that with the aerial drone later in the race), because we missed out on the exploding wheel carnage and some sketchy moments.
  • 2 0
@Maxcommencemal: yeah I give them all those technical issues. But there are so many cameras and there’s still such a mix of coverage time for all. Maybe I recall it wrongly but we literally seen the finishline of Nathan and much more of others. I get that you have to cut runs short on the pack with more riders on course but is it that hard for one of the biggest broadcasters to arrange for each rider to get tue same share? That is on a 4 minute track when there’s a rider ever minute basically 1 minute each and not half a run for some and 10secs for others. We had the same happen to Tahnee earlier in the season. That’s all independent of some cameras failing. There are enough cameras on the hill overall.

@ESKato: As I'm in no hurry to carry on watching France bury Italy at rugby, I just watched back to refresh my mind. We saw as much of Pontvianne as we did Luke Wayman just before him. Owen Rick, the next rider had a few extra seconds of dodgy drone footage, but we didn't get to really see more of the runs until Dani Castellanos.

Snowshoe they kept showing that scenic shot of the blue hotel in the middle of the Jr’s runs, instead of the riders.
This time was showing a parking lot with tents.

@Maxcommencemal: You're not wrong, bad coverage is better than no coverage. However, given that a portion of the weekend's coverage is behind a paywall and the resources that Warner Brothers Discovery Inc. has at their disposal, an expectation of higher standards is not wrong either.
