MTB enthousiast, I ride mostly XC/Trail but I like to be fast in downhills and I'm pretty heavy at 95kg hence some DH equipment on my bike.

@big-red: Actually E-Thirteen and KCNC make some very good 9-50 and 9-52 cassettes. They won't be able to go to 8 teeth though.

The closest you can find to the range of a 3x10 setup is using 36T ring at the front with 9-50 cassette from E-thirteen or 9-52 cassette from KCNC.

Fact : even with your fancy 10-52 cassette, you have less range than a good old 3x10 from 2012. I have 24-32-44 at the front and 11-36 at the rear, giving me ratios from 1.3 to 7.8. The neareast I can find with 1x12 speed drivetrains is 38 x 10-52, with ratios from 1.4 to 7.5, which is still less range than my old 3x10 setup. I understand the benefits of having less moving parts, reduced maintenance, possibly less weight and the possibility to have a chain guide with a 1x12 setup. But in term of gear ratios, you had more range with 3x10 than current 1x12. And also, the price of a 12 speed cassette is so much more expensive than a 10 speed one!
