Castlewellan in Northern Ireland has a reputation for being fun and flowy with a few features thrown into catch out even the best riders. Some would say it’s too easy and head for the gnarly trails just down the road. So with some imagination, plenty of hard graft and the magic Enduro ingredient thrown in for good measure, Castlewellan soon got wild! Every rider got challenged to their limits using every skill in the bag. As a wise man once said, ‘‘Never underestimate your opponent!’’

What is there not to love about this!!??

Being the final round of the 2017 Vitus First Tracks Enduro Cup riders were putting it all on the line to capture titles and bragging rights. The only thing that lay in the way was 5 stages consisting of everything from fast, rocky singletrack to the infamous ‘Mount Vitus’ a climb on stage 2 that had your heart bouncing through your chest in mere seconds. Adding to all this a few autumn showers hit the drying stages mid-practice leaving track conditions for race day totally unpredictable.

Goodies up for grabs.

Come race day the sun was shining and the atmosphere in the race village was electric. Riders left to tackle the stoke on stage 1 only to be soon met with the physical challenge stage 2 had on offer. Stage 3 was somewhat easier but there was no let up as titles and times were on the line. Most people were looking forward to stage 4 as it had a perfect mix of loamy trail followed by some of the best bits the trail centre has to offer. Stage 5 was a leg crushing pedal back towards the race village with a lap of the pump track to finish.

Round 4 winner Kelan Grant.

As riders crossed the finish line it was high 5’s and Erdinger all the way to the podium. The craic was had and titles got decided. The only thing left to do is start planning the adventures 2018 has to bring!

Keep er pinned!!
