Pinkbike Poll: Do You Risk Riding Alone?
This is a great point. I will add a counterpoint though. My worst crashes have all been alone, trying to take it easy. I once got called in to work as I was about to downhill a black diamond rated trail, so I decided not to risk it and ride the easy green. I pushed my front wheel off a gentle berm at a conservative pace and drove my inside shoulder into the ground. Comminuted clavicle fracture that needed surgery with a permanent fixation installed was the result.
My take away from that crash was to always focus on the task at hand, regardless of how serious or mundane it may be. I was more focused on responding to work than on the trail and it bit me hard.

Video: What's More Important When It Comes To Tire Choice? Grip & Confidence, or Rolling Speed?
@FaahkEet: True, however it can be challenging to get a non-commercial product to reliably stay in place. I have seen a home made tourniquet fail after being placed. The windlass became dislodged and blood flow was restored to the leg. After that incident I prefer to rely on commercial products due to ease of use and reliability. Knowing how to build and place a home made tourniquet is an extremely useful skill.

Great talk on first aid. Consider throwing a cat or swat tourniquet, a medium SAM splint and 2 triangular bandages in your kit. The tourniquet weighs a less than 60 grams and can be extremely helpful when needed and applied properly. The SAM splint packs flat and is easy to use. The triangular bandages are how you can make a sling/swath to hold your arm in place, among other things, and they weigh/cost nearly nothing.
Take a stop the bleed class, in person or online, and watch videos on splinting extremities.
