Thömus Reveals Limited Run of its 32" World Cup XC Bike
I think people fear that their freedom of choice will be taken away if the entire industry goes to 32" wheels solely based off the advantage they give for racing. Most people are not racing, and a 32" wheel comes with inherent downsides, tire/butt clearance being the main one I think of when the topic comes up. Additionally, any advantage they give for racing will be negated once the entire field is on them, rendering the whole exercise kind of pointless in the end.
