Feb 21, 2021Alchemy Arktos 29 ST - lightly used
$3700 USDI've edited out the confusing part of original post where I mention that there is an 'ST' frame. The ST is just a designation and is exactly the same frame with a shorter link installed to reduce the travel to 120mm.
The 120mm rear link was included by Alchemy which can be easily be switched out to 120mm in the rear.
(I've had a few questions about the rear travel
which I'm addressing below:
To clarify,
this is the 140mm bike sold by Alchemy as 140mm 29er. Not a 120mm version that I upgraded to 140 by installing another link.
Alchemy simply ran out of my chosen color when I was buying the bike last September,
so they just put the 140mm link on the rear of a frame that has the 'ST' colorway marked on it. But this is exactly the same frame as the one without the 'ST' on it that is sold as 140mm, and is 140mm. This is what Joe at Alchemy explained to me.
The 'ST' designation on the frame is just another way to market the exact same frame to another segment of the consumer market.)
Expensive medical bills have forced me to sell this bike which I have used for XC rides around Tucson Mtn Park. This bike has had the frame protected with racers tape since taking it out of the box, so the frame has no visible scratches and could pass as a new frame, even though I've had a few dozen rides on it since September. There is a scratch on the seatpost from not being to able to unclip in time on a techie climb, but other than that it looks perfect.
The current setup on this rig is:
One-Up carbon handlebar
Full Shimano XT Drivetrain and brakes(4 piston)
Race Face Turbine 70mm stem, -5 degree rise
Fox transfer seatpost with Race Face lever
Shimano XT cranks with 165mm crankarms and a 28t single ring. ( I can include the 30t if you want to swap)
WTB saddle
Just to reiterate, this is the full XT build kit from Alchemy, except I upgraded to the
One-Up carbon bar.
Came stock with factory level Fox DPX2 in the rear and Fox Grip2 160 in front (both Kashima)
Has Maxxis DHR II 2.4 in the rear and
Minion DHF 2.5 in the front, very little wear on the tread so far.
The frame has Superboost 157mm rear spacing and is very stiff, never noticed a hint of flex.
Both shocks have just been serviced by a professional mechanic at the best local bike shop in Tucson with new wiper seals and fresh oil installed.
Shipping and insurance included.
Frame color is the Olive/Wintergreen colorway.
All in all a well rounded bike, but unfortunately I can't afford to keep it.
Best of luck in your search.
Any other questions reach out to me, we can chat via text/phone or email. (I would leave my number but I'm not sure if we're allowed to.)
Last thing, will ship to anywhere in
US/Canada.
After removing the tape, there is still some glue marks on the frame but those are not scratches in the photos. There are some very tiny superficial scratches which I've highlighted in the last 2 photos.
Contact me for more photos/questions.
Thanks for looking.

Inside the Float X2 and CCDB Air - Video
I like the video, cool to see the insides of both shocks compared, but I would like see a comparison from a more neutral source.
I don't doubt his expertise, but since his business relies on suiting up Fox shocks with a new, better air sleeve, wouldn't it be in his interest to focus more on the pluses of the Fox ? You really can't be considered neutral if you're effectively a proxy business partner of a company, i.e., you work only on their products.
As far as my angle goes, I currently ride a Pivot Firebird with a CCDB Air CS, which was a HUGE improvement over the 2 Fox shocks I previously had on the bike. I also have noticed that every "review" from a North American based website at least,
always says that the current model Fox shock found on OEM bikes fixes the problems the previous versions had. For ex., I got an Ibis Mojo 3 last fall with a 2017 Fox EVOL DPS which is supposed to fix the problems with the previous CTD shocks, but to me, it's the same ol same ol feel of all the other Fox shocks that I've had on various bikes over the years, so I'll be replacing it soon.
