With a foggy start, the ‘Dig & Ride’ weekend at Moelfre turned out to be a great weekend. Lots of riders turned up to help with the new tracks being built at Moelfre, with most of the work this weekend going into the Macmillan Dream Line.
Macmillan Dream LineAt the start of the weekend this track was in two parts, a set of jumps and berms at the start with a technical section at the end. But by the end of the weekend we had a middle section too! We started by shaping the jumps and berms built by Rhys Evans (a.k.a Powie) with his digger.
So to summarise the track, it kicks of with a right-handed berm into a rather big hip jump with more berms and jumps to follow. To mix it up a bit, once you get to the middle section there’s a rock garden and a fast straight down the valley to shoot you up the other side so you can get to the technical section.
The technical section is an old track that has been used for races in the past, but has been left untouched for a few years. With a bit of work this section has rock drops, rutted corners (or ‘cutties’ as I’ve been told) and an off camber section. The only bit missing on the track now is how to get to the finish field. It is a decision between the 4X jumps and the existing track at Moelfre. But I’ll let you know once this decision has been made!
Llwybur Y Draig/The Dragon’s PathOver this ‘Dig & Ride’ weekend most of the work went into the Macmillan Dream Line, but some progress was made on Llwybur Y Draig too. Mainly marking out how it will split from the Macmillan Dream Line along with some digging, but I will provide more information on this track when more of it has been built.
Day of RidingThe day of riding the Macmillan Dream Line went well, and throughout the day the track just got better. Whilst most riders were opting for the smaller hip jump, a handful of riders Tom, Jack, Ollie, Louis and Charlie were the only riders to hit the bigger hip jump. Ollie being the first to hit it and Charlie sending it over Dane’s Nissan pick up truck leading to the hip jump being named the ‘Nissan Jump.’
A big thanks to all the riders who turned up to dig over the weekend, and by the grins on their faces at the end of the weekend the free uplift made it all worth it. Also thanks to John at MTBuplifts.co.uk for organising the weekend and Powie for building the top section.
Some of the shots were by Paused Motion. Be sure to check out his Facebook '
