The 'Impassable' Route - Red Bull Rampage 2016
Claw put it best, " you know on the right you die, fall off on the left you die" Tthat's some insane exposure. Good to see people actually working together making it somewhat safe. It got a little greedy there for a while with all "quit poaching my line" bullshit.

Dodging Bullets on a Mountain Bike Ride - Video
@badbadleroybrown: I didn't hear any whizzing either, just assumed so since the guy stated he heard them within 15 feet. This user group is fighting pretty hard to abolish shooting in the area and they have the numbers and resources to influence it. I'm on the other side of the fence regarding shooting in the forest and I partake with my father and my son. Would be a shame if they actually get it banned. I grew up at the edge of Capitol Forest and Mima Mound area and I've never felt threatened enough to confront anybody about shooting near my direction. Like I said I would have just kept riding.

Dodging Bullets on a Mountain Bike Ride - Video
Honestly, I've ridden this trail for close to 20 years. I wouldn't stop I'd just Get the F#$K out of that section of trail. They were already at the top of that section and 20 seconds down the trail they'd have been out of the hot zone.

Dodging Bullets on a Mountain Bike Ride - Video
@badbadleroybrown: Honestly if bullets were whizzing by he wasn't shooting into a backdrop. There is a large valley there and that corner people put up cans and whatnot and shoot pretty much into the valley. The direction the riders were walking up is the only direction where there is a backdrop which faces the hill heading up to the towers at the top of the mountain and the trail system extends to this area as well...so he really has no safe place to shoot in this area. I hear what you are saying. I live within a mile of a shooting range near this particular forest, at the beginning of the video I thought the same thing, over reaction and is common among my mountain bike community. Honestly people have been shooting guns in this forest for much longer than people have been riding mountain bikes, and most of the riders don't live in the area but live in town so they aren't used to the gunfire. However I know this particular spot and have been in the same situation. I usually don't hang around and yell I just GTFOuta there. In reality there are shooting restrictions in all areas where there are multi use trails and are designated by such. The guy should have just drove a little further down the road.

@badbadleroybrown: This is not a safe place to shoot and is a restricted zone to discharge a firearm in Capitol Forest for a reason. There are many multi-use trails in the area and the area in question is not a safe place to shoot. I advocate the use of firearms but only in a safe manner and when you are shooting across this valley you are not acting like a responsible gun owner. What is the first thing you learn when handling a weapon..."point in a safe direction" whether that be up down sideways or in front of you. Two Miles up C-Line there is a quarry with a nice backdrop that most people use safely for target practice.

Dodging Bullets on a Mountain Bike Ride - Video
I grew up in Littlerock/Olympia and ride in Capitol 3-4 times a week. I advocate the right to bear arms however I do not advocate the irresponsible use of a firearm. We do have an education system in place if you plan on hunting and most responsible gun owners have completed these courses. Known as the "Hunters Safety Course" here in Washington and after completion you undergo a "Field Skills Evaluation Course", just about every gun owner I know has completed these courses successfully and act responsibly. Now that said anybody can go purchase a .22 or a rifle with like the gun being shot here. I have lived at the base of this forest "Capitol" since 1994 and ridden its trails most of my life and it is very common for locals to go up there shooting off of C-Line or any other road for that matter. Been dodging bullets for a long time to say the least and this person was not shooting in a familiar spot for recreational shooting. There are several old Quarries along C-Line and many safe places to shoot, however this was not one of them. There are many logging roads and multi-use recreation trails in the area and aimlessly shooting down the hillside is not one of these safe places to discharge a firearm. This person was irresponsible and the reason many responsible gun owners in the area are facing losing the right to shoot in Capitol forest. Education is key here. I ride mountain bikes, I own 2 guns. I advocate both as fun activities...but this type of behavior I do not condone.
