ENVE, Ibis, Specialized - Sea Otter 2014
Its a bit unusual that they would choose aluminum for their molds. I can see that route for low volume stuff because it is easier to manufacture in the first place, but I find it strange that they wouldn't just jump to working with steel molds. Maybe they can do Al in house, but not steel? They might count on the generally higher thermal expansion of aluminum for extra compaction of the material, allowing easier processing too.
Yall also have to realize that Enve uses exclusive resins that have better toughness properties than what is on the market right now. This gives higher reliability rims that are less likely to suffer matrix failure from big hits.

Pedalling, Pain and Victory - XCO World Cup 6, Norway
Lycra helps a lot with allowing you to move the bike around beneath you. When you are racing with the seat up high and no dropper, the Lycra stays out of the way and doesn't get caught on your seat like the crotch of most shorts. Also, it really helps you keep cool. At the levels of power output these guys are doing, it allows for efficient heat transfer away from your body. You don't have to like the style to recognize the real benefits of that type of uniform. I, for one, have never been into it. I though people looked ridiculous. But, when you are racing, every little advantage it worth considering.

I still can't tell if they are complaining or just commenting about the pedally-ness of the stages.
Personally, I think having to pedal in a stage is what really makes enduro unique. It means that you really have to have all around fitness with your descending skills in order to really do well. It helps make the downhill stages a little longer than what a plain downhill race might offer and it helps reinforce the need of a really well built all around bike that can truly do it all - penalizing those who are set up purely for either downhill or cross-country

I too would like to know about the writer's impression on climbing performance. How did the suspension behave when sitting pedaling with/without platform damping activated? How about when standing and mashing? How does it compare to another linkage system like VPP or horst link?
