But not managed the chain in anyway leading to plenty of feedback regardless of it's decoupled rotation.

Rimpact Announces New Chainring-Based Chain Damper
@steviejks: it's on the list of investigative projects for the future. For now, we feel that for most riders the relatively low 8.6 degrees is easy to adapt to in regular trail, fire road climbing and enduro and DH racing situation.

Rimpact Announces New Chainring-Based Chain Damper
@Balgaroth: we are with you on the pedal kick back in real world scenarios. But chains have mass and they flail around, that's not necessary to prove.

Rimpact Announces New Chainring-Based Chain Damper
Start with a calculation that describes the energy present in the system. Design a device that can fit a range of springs that are stiff enough to capture this energy momentarily given the travel amount you designed. Test it whilst reducing the travel until you hit a minimum travel maximum control limit in that form factor. 8.6 was the result with this form factor and spring rate. Everything is a balance with design. We initially had a 12 degree rotation but it was horribly sloppy and caused climbing issues. We reduced it down whilst maintaining the capability of the device by simultaneously upping the spring rate until we were maxed out. We tested down to 4 degrees but felt the harshness come back into the system up until 8.6 degrees.
