Severed Alliance

Severed Alliance bike co was an idea i've had for years , i always kept in tune with the new developments that bike companies were using and after a long conversation with a friend i thought, what the hell i'll give it a go. This company is years in the making and my goal is to make the stuff that i want to ride, and if other want to ride it too then thats cool.Severed Alliance is from england but we get all our stuff manufacture in the far east like most other companies out there. The tubing we use for our parts however is somewhat different from the rest and we've gone for a colour scheme i've always wanted to have.

I know that you may have seen our tubing as it has already been claimed by other bike companies out there. The tubing design was developed by Severed Alliance and a very good friend we have over in the far east, who's knowledge of metal is outstanding and i hold the upmost admiration for the guy. He makes tubes for some of the biggest cycle and motor bike companies in the world. severed alliance and our friend from the far east have the world exclusive patent on it as it took a great deal of time to develop and we have called it “helix tubing”. Basically this is not new technology it has been tried and tested for years on other products that use steel tubing such as building construction and so on and is used to distribute the strength and stresses of the tube more evenly, allowing for a stronger build.
Think of it basically as rib cage this is not pressed metal. The advantage of this tubing is, say you wanted the down tube on your frame as 34.9 in diameter and 3mm thick the severed alliance tube allows you to use tubing of 2.7mm thickness but with the other 0.3mm across the members of the inside of the tube, but not the complete tube and thus you have the weight saving ingredient. This design actually increases the tube strength by 30% and decreases the weight by 20%, Nice eh!here is a shot of the inner workings of our tubing featured on all our bars, frames, forks and cranks

Besides using the Helix tubing Severed also heat treat all there cromo products by liquid heat treatment, So this liquid heat treating process isn't some new radical process that promises crazy weight with standard tubes. Basically all heat treating processes are the same, the product is put into an oven and heated up which makes the frame stronger and a little lighter. Most of the ovens in Taiwan are heated with air which is fine for most frames but with light weight frames it can lead to all sorts of problems. Basically the air that heats the oven will heat certain parts of the oven more than other parts which will lead to some parts of the frames being over heated and being heated for too long leading to brittle welds and tubes but also some parts not being heated enough and leading to un even weight and tube strength

The liquid heat treating heats the oven with a liquid that is at a constant controled temperature but is also constantly circulating to avoid any temperature changes, this leads to a product that is perfectly and evenly heat treated and is a must for light weight stuff.

All of SA cromo products will be heated this way, but as mentioned this is not some new radical heat treating process its just a better way of heating the oven that heat treats the frames.

24" rims made from 6061 heat treated T6, 31.5mm wide 17mm high and are pinned and welded and have 8mm asymmetrical offset drilling a rim with only a pinned or sleeved join will just not cut it, also being a rim for the street/park we also know that a rim for this type of riding must have a rim brake surface and not just disc only. You may notice that the rim does not have any eyelets, when we sent over the drawings to the makers we did specify eyelets but the 1st samples don't seem to have been fitted with them we have requested some more with eyelets fitted, ok they may not look as pretty when fitted but we are just not down with spokes being ripped out of our rims!
