FUNN Soljam Viper Pedals

Look what Hensley's spotted! Not only has he big sensitive ears, eyes like a hawk and a tongue like an ant eater. I trust his senses and you know he's onto something once he starts licking his lips.

Get your tastes buds onto these all new FUNN Soljam Viper pedals...Now I've been a huge fan of Funn's Soljam Vipers for many a year and I know so did Nathan Rennie a few years ago. He was once sponsored by them and they paid him dollars to run them for the season. The next year, sponsorship was withdrawn and he liked them so much, instead of being endorsed by another pedal manufacturer and receiving a dollar contract. He called up Funn and said I'll run your Soljam Vipers if you send me half a dozen sets over for the season and the deal was done.

Rennie unfortunately has calmed down shall we say, unlike these bad boys from the guys at Funn: Just note these are the same as before, just new colors before any of you get too excited!


11 Allen keyed pins on each side that come factory fitted as standard to stop the awkward fumbling around come out of the box time. The extruding pins offer awesome grip but that's not it. The concave (think skateboards) pedals are dished out, this means the ball of your foot sits in there nicely and adds to grip and comfort.

The axle is well sunk in there, unlike the Crank Brothers 50/50s where the axle body itself protrudes, hence why Mr. Hill runs the extended pins.

Pedal manufacturers (Wellgo) and punters please note: Any decent pedal worth it's weight in Gold should have no pins in the center platform of the pedal. Funn have some fancy grip tape in there, think cycle speedway which all helps to keep your rubber on the metal.


The only downside to the above specs is the body height is not super slim , that said it's not fat and over weight either, would you say standard?


Any negatives?

When you do catch those pins on that inside rock the pins will bend into crazy shapes. How easy to replace? Not very, by the time you have wrangled them out, you will if you're like me wrecked the threads. Don't even think about getting an Allen key in there either. Those Allen key pin heads collect dirt like no other, the dirt then dries out and sets like concrete, nightmare.

Is there a way around this?

Funn does actually supply you with a full spare set of street pins. Tougher and way more durable, they fit by using the Worlds smallest socket set.


All these shown here are the sealed bearing versions, you can tell this as they have the chrome silver axles. Funn do produce a loose ball bearing pedal, easily recognized by their black axles and a twenty spot price tag saving on the box.
