Miranda Miller: It's Time to Change How We Talk About Injuries in Mountain Biking
I respect you for sharing your truth, but I think the premise of "the culture of MTBer's downplaying injuries is toxic and an unnatural response" is untrue for a large percentage of us.
A lot of men especially respond much better to the stoic, masculine "you're a tough MF bro, you'll be back soon" comments than the sympathizing, vulnerable, more feminine comments, both in self talk and externally.
Not saying that applies to all men or all women, but doing super gnarly stuff tends to attract a lot of masculine type. That is our truth. We honestly feel better with that attitude than expressing vulnerability and having sympathy pour over us.
For people like us there's nothing "toxic" about it, it's our truth. Just like being more vulnerable is your truth.
I've been riding gap jumps for about 25 years, had my fair share of injuries, and seen many friends have serious injuries. Everyone who takes on serious risk for the love of the sport acutely understands the consequences, yet we choose to do it anyway.
I think every mountain biker should express their attitude towards injuries the way that aligns with their truth. And my truth is not the same as yours.

Apr 7, 2018Knolly Delirium - Upgraded Shock, Rims - Enduro Bike
$1800 CAD2013 Knolly Delirium for sale in Gastown, Vancouver. Blue
In great condition, most parts have been upgraded & in barely used condition. I bought it from an older gentleman who rode it lightly, then I only rode it once on Fromme.
Great for Enduro racing, or riders who like a heavy hitting bike that can still pedal up hills.

$700 CAD2004 Oryx DHO 1 frame
Marzocchi Drop Off dual crown 7" travel front fork
Fox Vanilla 9" travel rear coil shock
Hayes 9 Hydraulic disk brakes front and rear
Intense Mag 30 front rim (26")
Sun Rims Double Wide rear rim (24")
S-RAM X-7 shifter
S-RAM X-7 derailleur
This is a very good freeride/ downhill bike. I have ridden Gillard, Powers Creek, Postil, Silverstar and Crawford countless times on this beast and it has held up to every hit, drop, and steep I have encountered. And although it doesnt look it, it can hold its own on the dirt jump sets even though its obviously not built for it. The 24" rear rim gives you a little more wiggle room for when you would normally case a jump with a 26" rim. I have maintained this bike very well over the years that I've owned it. There isn't a single stock component left other than the disks themselves. Call if you'd like to come see for yourself. I'm located on the Westside. Also, I just spent $40 on a new derailleur cable and tune up yesterday so she's in prime riding condition.
