Opinion: Don't Get Rid of the Ports - High End MTB Frames Should Still Work With Cable Operated Drivetrains
@WheelNut: They are complex to manufacture though. Tube in tube (which is what Santa Cruz uses) especially. It isn't as simple as "making a hole". It still has to go through extensive ISO testing and holes in frames, especially carbon, are known weak points where failures can happen.
If it's cheaper to manufacture without, which it is, then fine. But if you don't pass any of those cost savings onto the consumer, that's where people get understandably upset. Less compatibility and more price doesn't make happy customers.

Because it's cheaper to manufacture the frames.

Jul 16, 2024Nukeproof scout XT build Large
$2200 USDFull XT build! I just have too many bikes and this one hasn't been ridden in a while. Rode it less than 5 times before hanging it up and using my full suspension bike as the daily driver. Large frame, comes with nukeproof horizon pro aluminum wheels and a full nukeproof alloy bar/stem.

Jul 10, 2024Vitus Escarpe Carbon frame Large
$1200 USDLarge size. Used for a half season, thinning the herd so I am selling this one. Frame is in great shape and has had frame protection applied from day one. There are some scuffs in the protection that I have pictured, and there is some scuffing to the paint behind the bottom bracket. Structurally the frame is perfect, and the cosmetic stuff is pretty minor. 140mm rear travel. Geometry can be seen here:
