Press Release: Smokestone Bikes

Based in the Cotswold foothills above Gloucester, we're hoping to offer something different from the mainstream. Each frame has come about directly from riding the real mix of terrain the UK has to offer with the aim to deliver bikes that can truly allow you to ride everything you come across.

As the owner of Slam69 bike shop, I discovered what we know as the Fatbike after being forced to ride one by a supplier hoping to get their brand into the store. A rather basic used demo bike arrived and after a 3 mile ride home on tarmac I was totally hooked. That was 2013. Now 6 years on and things are steadily growing as more people discover the opportunities fatbikes offer to the regular mountain biker.

Smokestone have offered 2 frames up to now, the aluminium Henderson and the titanium Bow. Both using similar truly versatile with a lean towards a slacker trail geometry, now a 3rd frame is here and takes things to the next level. The new “Ti Pin” again keeps its families geo but now has a bombproof low maintenance drive train in the form of a Pinion gearbox.

Liam has taken to his Smokestone Henderson after hiring one for a weekend by the sea he fell in love so much he bought the bike. Living just a few miles from the home of Smokestone Liam has become one of the product developers now. Oh and he loves to show what a fatbike can do in the right hands as you can see.

Team rider Andy Deacons Smokestone Bow Titanium beast Andy love to play around with his setup as you will see this frame lends itself to lots of disciplines including road time trials. The Bow can be run fat or thin and is about to take on the UK number one Endurance challenge the GBDURO race from Lands End to John O Groats offroad.

I discovered mountain bikes back in the mid 80’s and one thing has been on my mind ever since ripping off my first rear mech: a gearbox. Now many moons later it's here. The frame, the Ti Pin, is again titanium, offsetting some of the weight penalty a gearbox introduces but this is far from a major concern as the weight is central and low so actually helps keep the balance and low centre of gravity. That and the obvious lack of maintenance.

Ti Pin sand blasted graphix on brushed titanium simply lush.

So what’s on offer, first the frame can come with all the Pinion gearbox options, these are available in 2 series, the C-Line and the P-Line. The cheaper C-Line comes in 12, or 9 speed options and the P-Line is 18, 12 and 9. Full technical details can be found on the Pinion website.

The bike pictured has the P1.18, which is as the name suggests the 18 speed version. Basically Smokestone went for the largest spread of gears for this first bike.
