Am I the only person who finds it Ironic that an AB cup is being held in BC? I can't imagine a better venue to open up to the Alberta scene, but I would imagine that most of the riders will actually be from BC, particularly with the conspicuous rider cap. Insurance issue?

The rider cap is something we decided on based on the max turnout we had at races last year of 65 riders. We had to print off race plates in advance, and thought the 30% increase above our biggest race last season would be plenty of room for people to sign up. If we actually get 99 riders to sign up, we'll be really stoked and can look at increasing the number of spots for next time!! Golden is about 3h from Calgary and very popular with riders here, so it's likely to draw a large AB crowd in addition to the BC riders. Our sponsors and the ski hill were both pushing for us to hold a race at KHMR, so due to the enthusiasm and support we were given, it was a logical decision to host a race slightly past our Alberta border. We've dealt with both governing bodies, Cycling BC and the Alberta Bicycle Association, and have sorted out all insurance and sanctioning issues in a way that will open doors for AB/BC racers next season to race/host interprovincial DH's.

Wow, that's surprising to have such a low turnout. I raced at KHMR back in '02, when the race course was down pioneer and claim jumper. That was my last race, since then I've watched dh racing in AB dissolve from a safe distance. I guess I'm using the 120 rider turnout at COP races back then as a frame of reference.

I noticed a comment on someone looking for accommodation in Golden. Check out www.goldenaccommodation.com or www.rideraccommodationandmedia.com. It is located downtown and can accommodate up to 8 people with an attached workshop. Sweet pad rental for all sorts of riders!

rider caps seems strange maybe 250. Ontario also holds 2 of their races out of province, prob for the same reason(better hills)

Bingo, Alberta just does not have any big mountain lift accessed trails.

There are neumerous places to camp for Dirty cheap, Just don't be stupid.... Super berm is in great shape and it looks like the upper section should be done by racedate, as there were crews working on super berm all last weekend. See you there..

We've got free accomodation for first aid volunteers, and free swag for all volunteers. We can cover most of your basic needs of food (lunches), clothes (ADHRA tshirts), and getting ya stoked on biking! Seriously guys, no one has signed up at all so if you expect us to continue to host races, you're going to have to drag out your parents/friends/significant other to help or these races won't be possible. Accomodation discount for volunteers is 25% I think.

Basically we need Medical staff on course Saturday 10:00-5:30 and Sunday 10:00-3:30 (end of race), and course marshalls on course 9:30 to end of race Sunday. Contact me at guitargal2000@hotmail.com to sign up. Thanks!!

I sincerely hope this works out good for ADHRA and AB Cup. But remember, there are three more races after this one that will fit into peoples calendars/travel bugets alot easier, meaning better turnouts, so I hope there's no discouragement if turnout for the one race is a little low.

The course, as rumored 2 weeks ago, looks amazing! Lots of variety and something for everyone... should be a great event!

What's the best bet for on hill accomodation?

I'm not sure the name of the accomodations on-hill, but we were told by KHMR management that rates were really reasonable for the summer so your best bet is to phone the ski hill and ask what they have available. There's also condos available if your group is larger too, so it should fit most price ranges.

Reasonable as in best available at $205/night?

Is there anyone else, like myself that has left things to the "last minute", that would like to get a bigger place to stay? I was planning to make the trip out with my girlfriend but at $205/night for 2 queens, a pullout, a loft & kitchen it really doesn't make sense for just the two of us.

On that note when will you know about the volunteer discount? What accomodation's does that apply to?

kevman, Palliser Lodge usually has rooms for $99/night. Call them up (1-866-SKI-KICK) and you can usually get a great deal - they tend to have LOTS of empty rooms in the summer, and are willing to swing you a good deal. I've booked a weekend trip before (2 nights hotel, 4 lift tickets for biking) for under $250.

Man, I wish I could race this, but back-to-back weekends in Golden (just got home from Psychosis last night) is just too much when you're coming from Edmonton.
