How does this impact Trek? Giant TW is definitely stamped on the side of most high end Trek boxes.

Isn’t it a little hyperbolic to say “for the first time ever we are bringing the XCO format to Asia” when an Olympic XC race has already happened in Asia 15+ years ago and Chinese women have already won World Cup races 15+ years ago? If WBD is going to be the steward of our sport, perhaps they should study our history?

Nicolai won the DH world champs at Kaprun in ‘95 under Leigh Donovan, so, they’re not exactly new to racing.

@BitsNBobs: As an American, what i see is that the team is committed to kids who want to learn. Our national governing body, USAC has a mega-expensive homeschool contractor as a sponsor now, because there’s so little UCI road, cross and CX racing on this continent. It’s dope seeing kids who get to do normal kid stuff get this level of support, it wouldn’t be possible without how hard everyone has worked over the last 10 years to rebuild domestic DH racing...

@konadan: Pre-Outside, Velonews shut down their own comments section because of people like me mentioning how corrupt Lance Armstrong, USAC and the UCI was on every pertinent article. That’s back when the same people that controlled the manufacturing of EPO and the Discovery Channel cycling team controlled USAC. Bike racing in America is older than baseball. It deserves far more respect than it recieves from the corporate media.

The article about Funston and how screwed domestic CX is- It’s your own damn fault, Robin Thurston, Outside CEO. You buy OUR legacy Journal of Competitive Cycling and turn it into some sort of trash rag cheerleading for “participation based cycling” aka “gravel”. Choosing to ignore real bicycle racing coverage to cover races so lame nobody would have entered them 20 years ago- it’s on you, Robin, you are the problem. VeloNews was started for and by bicycle racers more than 30 years ago. When VN was an important publication you were just as likely to see World Cup DH on the cover as Het Volk or domestic cyclocross. VN employed journalists who came from the world of bike racing, who lived for bike racing, people who would have used the masthead to excoriate Lifetime’s garbage bike racing, Brendan Quirks Oligarchy-centric management of USAC, and critized the giant multi national bike brands that are based in this country failing to support domestic racing. Scott Funston is a success story. The real story is how very bad “Velo” is at covering the bicycle racing that matters to bicycle racers.
