Men's Category of Slopestyle Will Not Proceed - Crankworx Rotorua 2024 [Updated with Unified Slopestyle Athlete Statement]
This sport doesn't have any "real" money in it. Most people who aren't active mountain bikers themselves couldn't care less about our little competitions. It's a great hobby, but a terrible career choice. Very few will make a decent career out of it, but even for them the risk/benefit ratio is way off. It's not just MTBing, the same goes for off road motorcycles (arguably much more interesting to watch than MTB) and many other action sports. There was a video a few years ago on IRC Tires YouTube channel from an endurocross race where they encouraged sponsored riders with a $100 bill to try to do a high consequence triple jump where the 2nd landing was a log. $100??... it was embarrassing to watch.

Fox 36 Float Factory Grip2 29" 150mm

$500 GBP
The fork was purchased in April 2023 and has been ridden only for 2 months during an extended holiday in Greece. These days I mainly ride pump track and XC bikes, so this fork has been sitting on a shelf since the Greek trip. The fork is in a perfect condition apart from a few tiny scratches to one of the stickers. Steerer is 22.8 cm.

Video: Brendan Fairclough's 4th Place Rampage POV
@charmingbob: I agree. I would prefer to see the judges calm and focused instead of screaming and jumping up and down in their chairs.

Interview: Vaea Verbeeck on Women Competing at Red Bull Rampage
@Jswail: I agree. It's tricky to make it work in a single event format. The level of skill, ability and willingness to take risks isn't currently comparable. It's the nature of this particular discipline. While the gap will narrow over time, it will never be close (there might be some individual outliers in the future, but we are talking about averages here). In general, does it matter?... not really, since those are two different categories, like in any other discipline, but... 1) for the even organisers it's a pain to manage the logistics of the event, since not all riders might be able to relatively safely ride the same course/zone. 2) the broadcast is already long and with not the most exciting camera angles, weather delays, etc it can sometimes get a bit boring. Now you will have the situation where you watch Semenuk's run followed by 5 ladies trying to just get a clean run down the hill. Not the best thing for viewer retention. It's unfortunate, but there must be better ways to grow the female side of the sport.
