Life Time Bans Drop Bars from the Leadville Trail 100 & Little Sugar MTB Races
Ooof, the full Op-Ed article in Outside/Velo is quite something. It’s bordering on a “hit” piece against all drop bar mtbs whether they are ridden in Leadville or not, and speaks to many inaccuracies and half truths. I dunno, might be time to let the old Outside+ account expire.
“Stop Trying to Make Drop-Bar Mountain Bikes Happen. Leadville Just Did Us a Favor.”

I dunno, Velo, y’all can do better. Whatever happened to ride ALL bikes???? Stop with the tribalism.

Life Time Bans Drop Bars from the Leadville Trail 100 & Little Sugar MTB Races
@corporaltedbronson: I totally agree with your comment. However, after reading the latest Velo instagram “opinion” post, quoting Payson McElveen that the decision by LTGP was based on pros request to ban drop bars. It’s a confusing and odd time to be an ultra endurance racer for sure…. Lifetime has often made controversial rules changes, and so be it, it’s there ball to play in their own race. That said, as a pointy end of race age grouper who had podium’s in similar events, having a drop bar MTB in my quiver is not gonna change. All the love and respect to LTGP, but a bit tired by folks telling people what they can and can’t do at Ultras. Might be skipping Leadville for other more interesting and open Ultra races in the future.
