you should have got the panasonic hdc tm300. its got the manual focus ring.

this has manual focus as well, in fact manual everything if you want it + i prefer the fact that it hs everything i wanted including long range zoom with not bad quality for a very nice price, only 200 quid, not bad for a camcorder
