Old School Golden Days! (read my comment, do you agree?)

This was the REAL XC! Today's XC Pros would complain that the course was too tough!

you got a point ryan, the carbon rims that the current xc world champion simply wouldnt surviive those courses. and these guys'd probably run rings around him if they were riding with the same technology. those were the days eh?

Here is an old video I found on my dad’s computer about a race he use to participate in. My Dad like many other of the older generation of mountain biking says ‘These were the golden days! At least 20.000 fans screaming for their idols on every world cup race, MTB racing is dead now!’ and in a way I totally agree and wish today’s XC racing was more like this and that the sports should have more fans! This was the REAL XC! Today's XC Pros would complain that the course was too tough ha-ha! In full my Dad says ‘Pro mt. bike racing is dead. '90's mt. bike racers RULED!! What happened to X-country pro mt. bike racing? I remember back in the day racing in the '94 Cactus Cup and then a couple of months later playing pool in a bar while watching the re-broadcast of the pros X-country race on the bars TV. The focus shifted to DH racing and its "extreme" mystique. X-country is extreme! Anyone can rocket down a hill, but climbing, fighting guys for position on single-track; now that's extreme!’ Once again this does make a very compelling point and I just hope this type of mountain bike racing isn’t dead, just living the shadows waiting to shine again....
