Loose Primo Pedal Insert
Trying to show the loose pedal insert on a Primo Hollow Bite Crank Arm.
Second time I have had this happen. Starting to think I made a bad choice with this crank set, which sucks because I bought a Ti Spindle and 2 bottom brackets to fit it.

Most certainly fully tightened. I am not measuring torque or anything but I would guess I am putting right around 70 - 90 ft lbs on it ... more or less

Well sure the crank arms are fully tightened and the pedals are fully tightened but there is an internal threading between the pedals and the crank arm. So the pedals actually thread into an insert which then threads into the crank arm. They call this the Pedal Boss. Essentially it is that second threaded insert which is coming loose and it seems to be more of an issue for bigger dudes.
But I have a fix see above.

I do have a fix. Here is what I did. First buy either a Free wheel tool like the one here:

Now you have to either buy a freewheel tool with the exact size of notches to fit your pedal boss, or what I did was use a grinder and file to make the teeth smaller to fit into my pedal boss. Then with or without the pedals in you tighten the pedal boss insert which is on the opposite side of the pedal. You really want them super super tight, I have yet to get them so tight that they stripped out , but that doesn't mean it could not happen so tighten them with care. Hope that helps.

Here is a photo of a set of hollowbite cranks in Hi Res: hollowbite photo
You will see that pedal boss insert with the two inset teeth. This photo shows the NON pedal sides of the crank arms. IE the pedals are threaded into the opposite side, so when your pedals are on the cranks you can still access this little threaded insert it is just inbetween the crank and the frame...
